The technology has been around for a while. Saw something on the BBC site about a year ago where WIFI masts can broadcast over several miles. Have a few of them and job done really!

I struggled to find a part of central Seoul to not have about 100 wifi APs. So.....

They did this in Swindon, I think they give everyone 2 hours/day for free then charge for unlimited access.
