hey.
as the title says, i recently changed the stock cooler on my 4850 to the akasa Neo.
and while it's slashed my temps in half, its running at full speed, and so is quite loud.
it's currently plugged directly into the PSU using the 3pin-4pin molex adaptor.
which im guessing is not the right thing, but the manual said it was the best solution.

question is, what is the best way to control the speed?
do i try and plug it into the MB? and then use a program to try and control it.
or are there adaptors i can get, so i can plug the 3pin fan plug into the graphics card's 4pin socket, so the GPU can control it? (which would be ideal)

thanks

doesnt look like i have any accessable Motherboard headers, so will proba have to invest in that controller, cheers

sorry to double post.
if i have fan speed controls set on my MoBo, if i set a certain fan to "ignored" in the Bios, does that mean it wont be affected by the speed contols?

Ignored usually means the bios will not monitor the fans speed or if a fan is connected, it does not necessarily mean you can't still control the speed.

what i mean is, got the controller you mentioned, and it only seems to work if plugged into the mobo( doesnt seem to work if connected directly to the PSU) and if i dont have the fan controls set in the BIOS then all my fans are really loud in my case.
but if i have the fan speed settings set in the bios, i cant control the speed of the cooler using the controller.
so i guess i need to find a way to make it not control the fan that the cooler and controller are plugged into?

hopefully im making some sense

Have you tried different fan headers on the mobo, some don't allow speed control, my asus extreme 2 only allows manual fan speed control through the channel fan headers.

Even if it is set to ignored, it will still be coltrolled

according to the destruction manual all 4 of the 3pin fan headers can do speed control. (Asus p5ke-wifi ap)
think i'll just plug it into the psu, and get some damping material for the case.
all this BIOS adjusting etc is too much for my feeble brain.

I have mine plugged into the molex connector supplied as I had it plugged into the board (might've been a PWM connector IIRC) and it almost fried the card as it was barely spinning  :p

aha!
with a bit of bodge jobbing, i've got the controller working when it's connected directly to the PSU.
success!
