Contisport Contact 2's

I heard they take 2 car lengths further to stop in the wet at Motorway speeds. I dont want any Pilot Fails :)
You hear fail. PS3 does not exhibit this small oversight as proven by approximately 0 independent tests to date.

Pretty sure my old man's Fabia vRS came with these from new. Fronts need replacing soon - ~33k miles from them. Plenty tread left on the rear. That's pretty much all motorway miles.

I'm not interested in Michelin Pilot Sport 3's at £225 each, fitted.

well get some cheap and cheerfull eagles / Vredesteins

Good tyres just dont expect them to last long, especially if you have a powerfull car :p

I have Vredesteins on my 330i and the rears have been on for about 12k and still have about 4mm left :)

ContiSportContact 3s are better than 2s.

I'm not finding the wear all that bad [on the 3s] to be honest, but I've been told that they wear the quickest out of the usual suspects..

That said, they are an excellent tyre [3s]. Don't waste your time with the 2s, they're the predecessor and such have been discontinued afaik.
ContiSportContact 3s are rather expensive though..

Apparently Pirelli P7s are the 'best' now..

Interesting link, I notice the F1 still 'rains supreme' in the wet which is usually what i go for with tyre performance. Noticed the apalling fuel economy result though, not something i really pay attention to but out of interest what does that translate to in the real world?

PS3's seem to trail the CS3's in every way, as I expected, they cost a million pounds so you'd expect them to be outstanding..

True, i cant imagine something like a 330 being hard on tyres mind you ... My scoob ate the eagles i put on it for brekfast ..... My mate has a focus RS and he can destroy a set of those ultrac sessantas in a morning session at bedford (and i meen destroy they must be made of play dough)

Ive had many cars and many tyres and ive allways found the michelins to have the best grip / wear etc. Dont get me wrong ive had 10's of Eagle F1s on previous cars and as good as they are they just seem to wear out in no time at all ...

I have today just had a pair of Contisport 3's put on the front, the old ones lasted me around 35Kmiles. I have Contisport 2's on the rear which have lasted about 50K miles :) granted I only drive up and down the motorway everyday, and don't tend to drive it to hard (Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Ghia X). I find them a great tyre, good in the wet as well.

Interestingly on the F1 front the Z4 has had a set on the back for about 5k now and is nowhere near as worn as those on the back of my 530.

So it wasn't just me that had poor life out of F1's :) Mine lasted around 5k and I'm being generous with the estimate.

Fox, are you or do you know anybody who is member of Costco? They do Michelin tyres at uber cheap prices. I got a price from Costco for PS3s and then got a local tyre place, think it was National to price match.

I found that the Conti SportContact 2's were fine until 3mm and then they tramlined all over the place and felt horrible. My ST TDCi did the fronts in 12k.

Michelin Pilot Sport 2's are the best all round tyre I've come across and the wear rates were much better - they did 22k on the front of the ST and felt good from start to finish, and I ran them right down to the wear indicators. PS3's are available from £140 a corner in 225/40/18 which isn't bad.

As for them being 2 car lengths worse on a wet motorway, well lets look at scientifically.70mph = 31.3 meters per second. A Mk3 Mondeo is about 4.5M long, so say 2 car lengths is 9M. That's the equivilent of braking 0.28/sec earlier. If you cutting it down to those margins, you'd crash anyway.

I'm running Sessantas on the Octavia and they're fine in the summer, but they felt strange in the cold weather until they had a bit of heat in them. Will probably go for them again as they are £50 or so a corner cheaper than PS3's. They've done 17k on the front of the Octavia and are getting ready for changing, which isn't bad on a 200BHP FWD drive car that gets driven fairly briskly most of the time.

Costco are great, but the nearest one to Fox would be Bristol and that's about 120 miles away.

How heavy are the Z4 and 530i?

Whats the deal with wet weather performance being #1 priority, does it rain 364 days of the year down there?
