I look forward to them compensating BA and the passengers their illegally held strike in March impacted :)

After all, companies don't get a free pass when they do something illegal, however small, so why should Unite?

Is there any suggestion that the strike held in March was illegal?

It seems that both sides are willing to drive BA into a wall.

BA Management : Seem to think they can ride the storm as they have large cash reserves

Union/Workers : Seem to want to hold onto terms/conditions from when BA was a nationlised industry, they need to wake up and smell the coffee.

the customer is the one that suffers, both my Mum and my sister are due to fly with BA in the next 3 weeks and they are completely in the dark and vowed never to fly BA again.

I'm shocked that Unite can't follow simple and clear rules, and then moan when it invalidates their strike ballot for the second time...
I noticed at the recent declaration of the election results in my constituency that the returning officer failed to give exact details of how ballot papers were "spoiled"; I suspect that the same happened elsewhere . . . do you think that we should demand that the election be rerun

As to your "simple and clear rules", you clearly don't understand what Thatcher was up to when she had her lawyers draw up those rules, the intention was that they should be impossible to adhere to

BAD news.

Fixed.

It's a disgrace the court ruling the strike illegal on the flimsiest of technicalities.

We're going to be discussing this at our PCS national conference tomorrow with a view to coming out in full support of Unite and in protest at the judicial systems removal of a workers right to withdraw labour - which is a fundemental human right.

This court judgment is a dark day for trade unionism in this country and we are going to fight it with all our might.

When you're struggling to get to work this summer, when your bins haven't been collected, when the benefits system isn't running, when the Justice system grinds to a halt think back on this day and say a word of thanks to Mr Justice McCombe for yesterdays idiotic decision.

Bla bla bla.

Cabin Crew have jobs, are paid in-line for their industry and are having a bit of a hissy fit.

Just fire them.

+1

The sooner each and every one of them get fired the better IMO
It's the only way to save the airline which happens to be one of the only airlines I can actually use to fly home easily without transferring in who knows.

They should all be fired, this is going to completely destroy the company, they should sack the lot of them and hire new staff.

Strange considering the rail workers seem to be able to strike quite regularly, so perhaps it isnt quite as hard as some seem to think. Perhaps certain lefties are considerably more stupid than others.

I would think it more a disgrace that the rather well paid heads of Unite can't seem to organise a ballot correctly despite many other unions managing it in the past? Maybe your ire should be directed at them?

At least try and make sure that whoever is running the ballot knows how to do it properly, otherwise you may not be coming out in support. :D

I assume you are not going to word the strike action as "Striking in support of Unite as they can't seem to organise a legal ballot despite lots of practice."?

Alternatively think "What the hell are the PCS striking for when the dispute has absolutely nothing to do with them? Just another example of militant unionism that helps no one in the long run." How exactly is your employer meant to resolve the issues when they have no control or influence over BA? How can you even think that this is "fair"?

One might equally say the same about the management of Network Rail who will doubtless be paying a great deal of attention to the recent BA ruling ;)

Things are moving apace at the High Court
Unite's legal team may have told Bassa to stay schtum until the appeal, but Derek Simpson, joint general secratary of the union has been sounding off.

He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the injunction was a "nonsense", based on the fact that Unite did not inform its members there were 11 spoilt papers.

He added: "It makes absolutely no difference to the result at all...I don't blame British Airways - the law is wrong."
...
Within two minutes of Mr Justice McCombe ruling the BA cabin crew strike unlawful last night, Unite's barrister announced his intention to appeal. The judge refused to grant leave to appeal, which means Unite must now scuttle off to the Court of Appeal to see if they get more sympathy there.

(The Grauniad)
I can see that Willie Walsh is winning the argument with the BA cabin crew who will I am sure return to work a contented bunch of loyal and dedicated team players. I expect that they are particularly looking forward to having judges as VIP passengers ;)

On another front, I suspect that Richard Branson is beside himself with delight :D

Hahahaha.

Unite are a bunch of bloody fools and the sooner they wake up and realise how screwed BA are without major changes the better or the whole bloody lot will be without jobs.

Willie will be ok because of his salary so Unite will simply have screwed their own members. Good one Woodley you utter pillock.

Like you know what's going on.

Like you know what's going on.

we can piece together whats going on by ourselves.

First, lets work out why BA were trying to reduce wages.

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/transport/article6466748.ece

That will be why then, an average cabin crew salary of £29,000 versus £14,000 for Virgin.

So we've established that BA cabin crew are paid more than i am, and indeed more than other cabin crew in the same industry. BA offers the best salary of the lot.

Trouble is, Unite have now acknowledged this

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/travel/news/article7119465.ece

Even though the union and BA have reached agreement on the substantive issues of the dispute, another bout of stoppages is now likely. The union is insisting that 55 members who have been suspended pending disciplinary hearings during the unrest be allowed back to work and that travel concessions be returned to all crew who joined seven days of strikes in March. BA is refusing to move on the outstanding issues. It lost £43 million from two weekends of strike action in the Spring.

so they've agreed on pay deals, and the sole reason they are striking ?

because they want 55 members of staff who have been suspended re-instated, and all those that lost their travel perks to get them back.

Heres the letter the cabin crew received

http://blogs.news.sky.com/frontlineblog/Post:201cd95c-483d-4028-9a1a-9a3f9aec93dd

So basically its a non contractual staff discount, which BA have every right to tke away.

So they want the employee discount re-instating for all those that took part in the strike and the 55 members of staff re-instating.

THats all this is over .... bloody staff discounts. Grow up BA cabin crew and stop acting like petulent children. You've got to keep your industry leading pay packages, and your jobs, which is more than can be said for a lot of other workers at the moment.

This is going to kill BA if they are not careful and then who will the pathetic cabin crew work for?

I booked flights to America last month. I've no idea how much BA wanted for these flights because I specifically filtered them out of my search results as I considered booking with them a risk I was not prepared to take. So, thats my grand gone to Beardy Branson instead - how many others have made the same decision?

Quite a lot I'd imagine.

I've booked BA flights to Thailand, departing in just a few weeks.

So - ash cloud, violence and strikes - bring it on! :D

(This wasn't deliberate, all this was booked months ago!)

we've got a holiday to vegas booked for August

booked it months and months ago, but at the time were debating whether to go with BA or with Virgin.

BA use the new airbus planes on the Vegas Route which have laptop power which was a plus, we almost went with them, but got a deal with Virgin Atlantic that included the hotel etc.. that worked out marginally cheaper so we went with them instead. So glad we did now.
