The cabin crew's perspective . . .

BA is taking disciplinary action against more than 50 crew members who have been suspended on spurious charges arising from the dispute. Seven crew have already been dismissed. Thousands of cabin crew and their families have had long-established travel arrangements removed.

so you had your staff discount taken away and people who were naughty boys / girls and went on strike got the book thrown at them.

My heart bleeds ... not

not when you consider where they were when BA took the action. They say they were "close" but the actions afterwards show they were never going to be close. Its just one thing after another.

The cabin crew's perspective . . .

There are around 12,000 cabin crew represented by Unite; over 70 per cent of them are women; a many are single mothers and most have worked for BA for at least 13 years, some with over 30 years loyal service. They will typically earn between £18k - £26k per year.

My heart bleeds. How many other single moms are there that earn considerably less? How many single moms would like to earn 18-26k over such a long period of time? Seriously these people need to get some perspective.

What will those single mothers do without earning a lot more than our household income when I was a young lad with 2 siblings, and without cheap air-travel!

They're pushing it so far it's almost disgusting.

So what is your view on the idea that it is appropriate for a company to stop disciplinary action for bullying, harassment and intimidation just because the union complains? Is that an acceptable approach to deal with workplace bullying?
What

Give Walsh another couple of months and he'll have everything in place to sack the lot of them. I welcome it.
Indeed, what the world needs now is more budget carriers a la Ryanair - brush up on your Polish today :D

The people that Unite are complaining about being put through disciplinary proceedings are there because of complaints from other staff about bullying and harassment.

Unite are saying that all the hearings should be dropped as part of any return to work deal. (And this is repeated on the site you linked to, see MrLol's post).

I'm asking if you support such a position, where disciplinary issues are considered not on facts, but on pressure, blackmail and intimidation from a third party.

Not that hard is it?

You seem to be assuming that BA staff's quality is a reflection of their much higher pay... A great many air travellers will disagree with you. Cutting pay and conditions down to closer to the industry average is not likely to result in a 'budget' service, because they don't provide anything approaching a 'premium' service now.

If that were true why has every strike ballot been overwhelmingly backed by BASSA members?

Agreed, BA used to be the best airline to fly with in my experience - and then Willie Walsh took over and started reducing levels of service closer to the industry average. Now I'd rather have my eyes burnt out with sulphuric acid than fly BA.

Them voting for it doesn't make it right, especially with their massive vested interest, and especially if there is a culture of bullying within the workforce towards those who don't side with the union worthy of the worst closed shop environments...

Yeah, damn Walsh for trying to reverse the decline in performance BA has been suffering since the 90s due to massive staffing overcosts...

Given the amount of travel and time away from home just how suitable is a job as cabin crew for a single mother anyway!?

If one of the reasons for the strike was to re-instate unpleasant members of staff, you'd kinda think they'd vote against it. I know I would.

He's doing such a good job too - how much profit did they make last year? and how much profit do they expect to make this year? Only losses due to the volcano are beyond his control.

Because they are playing on words and don't actually do the primary care... They are often just single women who happen to have had kids, rather than the classic single mum who actually looks after their kids and puts them first...

I think that if they have enough notice about when they are going to work so they have time to arrange child care it's a perfectly suitable job. I understand that one of the changes to the cabin crew T&Cs Walsh wants to impose is reducing the amount of notice cabin crew get before having to turn up for work, which he knows a lot of his staff simply cannot accept because they will be unable to arrange for appropriate child care arrangements.

Nice bit of demonisation of women there. Do you have any evidence to back up this claim?

All of them

Do you have any evidence o support this assertion that BA are bullying union representatives and their staff solely as a result of spontaneous complaints by other members of staff about bullying and harassment

Are you seriously pretending that Willy Walsh has suddenly become an outstanding example of a caring employer, deeply concerned about stopping bullying of his staff

You do post some tosh :D

That's a bunch of tosh - all airlines have been struggling for years due to the rising price of Fuel and the need to stay competitive with airlines chucking around £1 flight deals.
