Poll: Mum or Mom

I know all Americans call it Mom but I've seen peeps in this forum call their Mum "Mom", I'm just thinking is it a northern thing I don't know about.

Anyway, love you mum.

After birthday and mothers day cards, my Mom told us that she doesn't like us to use the spelling 'Mum'. When I asked why, she said it's a cut down term from 'Mother' so to remain with the trend it's more correct to use 'Mom'.

Technically 'ma' is more correct than 'mum'.

The proverbial "first word" of an infant often sounds like "ma" or "mama". This strong association of that sound with "mother" has persisted in nearly every language on earth, countering the natural localization of language.

I think its due to the southern americans, as we all know most of them carry a retardation gene which means they cant speak properly. This in turn leads to people just assuming that is how they are saying the word mum, it then gets written down as ma or mom.
