Hey guys,

I'm just looking for some reassurance here, basically I have just had a horrible feeling that I have left my laptop switched on at home... I remember hearing it this morning and thinking that I should turn it off... but I forgot....

It's been on since about 10pm last night and if I stay at work I won't be home until 6pm tonight.

Will it be ok? I'm thinking about making an excuse and leaving work early so I can go home and switch it off....

Although I leave it on most nights, like 11pm till about 7am and its fine although I'm just freaking out that its going to combust whilst I'm not home!

Paranoia sucks!

So anyway, what would you do? Just go home at 6pm and hope its all fine or make an excuse and leave work early?

Computers do generally blow up after long hours.. Especially laptop

It will be fine lol. I leave my pc on 24/7 most of the time

My laptop hasnt been turned off in 5 months... Its currently sat on the side in my hotel room streaming media for me to watch.

If it was 50C in here i maybe worried but it isnt.

The question is where have you left it switched on?
If it's on a desk then no worries but if it's on the settee then slightly worry.

your going to arrive home to find your CPU burnt out and all the plastic from your laptop dripping molten onto your floor and small flames licking away at the inside of your house....................
This is why Remote Desktop Connections are life savers!

Do you also worry every time you have to pop to the bathroom with the laptop left on... I suppose you just turn it off for the peeing duration right..? :p

I had to lol at this too, sorry. My lappy was switched off the other day as I wanted to give it a little rest; first time in almost a year. Think you will be safe, although I do keep mine on a nice cold fireplace hearth. If it was on a sofa, I would probably get someone to move it.

I left my laptop on for 40 hours straight writing random data to the disk from /dev/urandom. Nothing wrong with it. I'm pretty sure the scorch marks were there from before. :)
