He's doing such a good job too - how much profit did they make last year? and how much profit do they expect to make this year? Only losses due to the volcano are beyond his control.

BA has long had poor profitability based on its overall earnings. Walsh took over in 2005, generally, he's doing ok, considering he was brought in to sort out the 1999 onwards mess.
Yes, he's losing money via the dispute with unite, but the alternative (Capitulating and admitting that the union gets to set terms and business practices) is not an option and would be a disaster long term.
