Hi guys, just got a letter from this company telling me to pay them the blockbuster fine i owe (i never got around to it) it's £8.

Now, i've typed them in google, and a lot of people are saying not to pay them or something?! Bit confused as to do what to do :s

It says i have 7 days to pay or the following consequences will occur:

I will be unable to continue as a customer of Blockbuster Entertainment

I may incur interest charges to my account

They will instigate further action against me.

ring blockbusters, if its legit pay.. why would you argue over £8 you seem to know you owe them anyway...

The letter stats in bold - "Do not contact them regarding this matter, as they will refer you to us".

I'm not arguing i'm just wondering.

Or contact Blockbuster and ask them if you have any outstanding fine with them :confused:

I think they are more concerned about the debt collecting company been legit as opposed the fine itself.

Just call Blockbuster to confirm they are legit pay up and be done.
Oh and get a love film account!

I've called and paid them now, i'm just cautious of giving my card details over the phone that's all.

Contact Blockbuster, your debt is to Blockbuster, and blockbuster is THEIR client. Hence only Blockbuster can instruct them to stop contacting you.

Pay Blockbuster, problem solved.

That isn't how it works.

Blockbuster essentially "sell" the debt on to a third party. Your obligation (if any) is now with the third party.

The fact that a third party is involved at all, and they specifically state not to contact the originator would definitely suggest that is exactly what has happened.

Nope i had the same thing from blockbusters for a fiver. When i recived the Dept Collectors letter i went down to blockbusters and payed my late fees and never heard anything after that.

And it's been over a year now

A debt this small is very unlikely to be sold.

More than likely the Debt Collection firm get something based on what they collect. You pay to blockbuster they get nothing. Thus them implying you have to contact them.

+ Can't be sold unless default has been issued.
