WHAT!!!? Is that true because I gave a cat to the RSPCA back in January and they swore to me the cat wouldn't be put down as he was perfectly healthy after we nursed him back to health...

...that may explain why they refuse to tell me where he is in the system now...

This is often true, the RSPCA like to keep animals for as little time as possible before killing them.

That definitely looks like a bedlington terrier cross. We used to have one that looks exactly the same (colour hair type and posture) except ours had floppy ears.

Jeez, someone call the RSPCA! This dog looks in a worse state than OP's when they found him.

Hehe. It's good to see Maxy, he's getting a lot older. Hard to believe his eyes are open in this pic.
