I just bought a copy of Windows 7 ultimate, Would you suggest I do an ugrade from Vista or jst do a cean install?

I have backed everything up and on experience a clean install is can cause less problems.

What do you think

Clean install > upgrade.

I would always recommend doing a clean install. You'll have a fresh and problem free OS.

Clean install :)

Back up what you need/want, music, video's, pictures and work.

Nice clean install of Windows 7 :)

If you're going to do something as drastic as upgrade the OS you're probably going to do a full backup, and if you're backing up you may as well go ahead and do a clean install. That's my logic anyway.

The exception to this would be someone who had a large amount of apps they didn't want to reinstall, then you may as well backup and at least attempt an upgrade. Besides, upgrades aren't as bad as they used to be.

clean install.

personally, I only install a handful of programs..

7zip
winamp
firefox
anydvdhd
mpc-hc
paint.net

So reinstalling is quick anyway, things like Steam, I keep on another drive

Win 7 does a clean upgrade now compared to earlier OS's, so can save time. Its not like XP or something that kept all the rubbish on there. If you don't have much to backup or re-install, then a clean install would be best though.

I did a clean install and it's runnig great ;)

I have installed all my drivers and all essentials apps and seems to be working good...

Seems a lot faster too to boot up once it gets to ythe desktop anfd overall performance is a lot faster,

What is the maximum windows index score for a hard disk mine only scored 5.9

5.9 the highest a single normal HDD will go. I got 6.4 (from memory) from 4x velociraptors in RAID0 and I get 6.9 from an M225 SSD.

What is the highest score windows 7 goes upto?

Also is there anyway to get the animated network icon back like in vista and xp

I used to say this until 7. When I upgraded from Vista to 7 there were a total of 0 issues. I had all the benefits of not needing to reinstall programs but still had a fast and problem free OS.

I suppose it's really down to what harware you have and which software you have insalled, which will determine if you have any issues or not
