This happened last night in Birmingham, can't remember the name of the company so i'll have to check with him but to me it doesn't seem right. Apparently he wasn't parked illegally as the sign stated it was alright to park there after 6pm and he came outside in the middle of a gig to find the car next to him clamped and his in the process. They wanted £150 cash there and then to remove it which he couldn't pay so it was towed away and impounded and they now want £400 to release it. I don't have much more information but does this sound like a legit council clamp or some rouge clamper ?

Edit - think the company was called was called MWP - midway parks and apparently they charge £40 a day to hold the car at the impound as well.

You will no doubt have to cough up then fight it afterwards unfortunatley! regardless who it is :)

There was a thread on here the other day about a news item where someone used the interference of goods act or something similar to get his car back. Apparently once the car is off the site they manage, they no longer have the legal authority to move it.

I'll try and find it.

I'm not sure on all the details as i have only spoken to him briefly so not sure it was on the road or in a carpark but the manner in which he was clamped seems to contradict the signs that said it was ok to park that after 6pm. A brief google of the company name seems to bring up various links to similar situations and the information given makes this company stink of rip off merchants.

I remember the clampers and my dad's Van, it was soon removed with having a generator and 9" angle grinder in the back :D

These are the same lot of cowboys that clamped my mates car when we were working the custard factory last summer I think, they had no authority to clamp there as the custard factory had suspended their agrement due to them being **** and we think they took the car because as it was a Ka they thought it was a girls car.
Que 2 big very tired doormen waiting for the guy to turn up at the compound he refused to get out of his van and just chucked the keys out and told us we could take it away.
Bunch of robbers.

Pay with a credit card, and when the car is released, phone the credit card company, and say the transaction was under duress and you want it cancelled.
