Looking for a new fan to go on the cooler as the stock one is noisier than I would like, and how would i mount the new fan, doesnt fit on the original rubber mounts ans screws don't go far enough through to hold a fan.

Reccomendations appreciated.

Are you sure it is not running at full speed at all time?
Have you enable things like smartfan or other equivalent fan speed management settings in the bios, so it only speed up when necessary?

Yea, checked using hwmonitor its running 1800rpm@40 degrees on an Athlon II X2 @ 3.6
It seems to be a bit fast for that low temperture. I'm using the Freezer 7 Pro socket 775 one, and in my bios I can set how fast the fan spin and what the target temperature is. I set minimum fan speed to 37.5% (around 9xx~1000rpm) and target temperature to 45C (my Q6600 is 65nm, so it's should be hotter than your Athon II X2, and it would increase fan speed to around 1500rpm when temp gets to over 50C.

Seriously though...if your temp is only around 40C, I would think that the fan should not require to go much faster than around 1000rpm. May be you should have a look in your bios to see if you can adjust fan speed/target temp if those options are available?
