Epic say 'The Money's On Console'

You have 17 single and 1 double line of text. I like it when people use paragraphs but double enter after nearly every line of text ? To me it looks like 17 1 line paragraphs, makes it terrible to read imo.

As for OT:
Epic simply moved to an audience that is less demanding and easier to milk for money.

Changed, see the edit :p

I find it very very hard to read and follow something that's not double spaced when it's quite long. :o

I think you've missed the meaning of double spacing. I'd say it means 2 spaces after a full stop, putting an empty line after a paragraph makes sense but putting 1 after every damn sentence makes it borderline unreadable. The whole thing seems so disjointed.

God knows, i blame the video piracy unit :p

Double spacing is a line of space between each line of text. :p

I really hope Microsoft screw Epic over

i mean really **** them up the backside

Epic have got to be one of the biggest turncoats in the industry?

Thing I don't get about Epic is that it was very clear than UT3 was pretty much a techdemo for their UE3, and while UT3 sold terribly, their UE3 is very very widely used, they must be raking in a fortune from it.

Well the community's even been reverse-porting features from 3 back to UE2 (UT2004), so even if Epic don't release any more PC titles there's still the classics...

Don't forget though that Epic were also one of the first (if not the first) to start complaining about second hand games and likening them to pirated games. It's very clear that piracy is just a scapegoat that they're using as an excuse to pull out of the PC market.

Don't remember seeing that, but I will say on the record that I bought Unreal, three of four Unreal Tournaments on the PC, plus several other Unreal engine-powered games including Deus Ex, Thief 1/2, and so on.

However I can't see myself forking out for an Xbox 360, a suitable TV, Live and £40 or whatever for a console title. It just isn't happening with the budget I have for entertainment.

Meh, whatever. If you were handing in a report for work/uni then sure, line spacing is good. But here? It looks so disjointed.

I did quite enjoy Unreal 2, though it was always quite annoying that you got the Singulariy Cannon which is full of lols for half a level :(

That's pretty interesting, what like?

They first had a moan on it over a year and a half ago, which was the first example of a dev complaining about second hand games that I'd seen. I remember being completely baffled that anyone would say the stuff they'd said.

Here's the article that I originally saw it in (November 2008)

Most people already have the suitable TVs :p, however I hate the fact that games are £40, I haven't bought a PS3 game in over a year now, but the ones I'm looking at getting I'll probably buy second hand now due to the huge price difference.

I only generally buy first party console games anyway, multiplatform games I get on the PC for obvious reasons.

Meh whatever yourself! You started it! :p

I quite enjoyed Unreal 2 my self, I Don't think I ever finished it though.

Thats correct but doesnt have as much as of effect like it does on PC or hasnt yet. + in WII case amount of them people bought nintendo are well minted on that untill next consol they do no doubt.

Im not sure how true that is, I know people with Wii's who know nothing about gaming yet have one or two original titles and a bunch of pirate games. Plus the real money isnt made shifting consoles its in software sales and the Wii generally doesnt have a great attach rating. I suppose the relatively low-tech hardware should keep costs down though.

It is however a shame to see another big developer that owes a lot to PC gaming giving excuses to pull further out of it. If Epic had produced anything worthrhile on PC in the last five years Im sure their sales wouldnt be in the toilet.

Mutators, some of the Warfare features like a node capture controlling bridges etc. Obviously things like maps\textures\voices are less work but still add more fresh content.

Disappointing. Especially when UT2004 carried a rebate for UT2003 owners...

When even a cheapy 28' HDTV cost two weeks pay it wasn't really on my must-have list, not that I liked TVs anyway. Maybe I got unlucky. Regardless of that, I still prefer the PC, very few console titles have the depth to interest me for long.

I only generally buy first party console games anyway, multiplatform games I get on the PC for obvious reasons.

The only console I have is a Playstation One, yes the original single speed CD version from about 15 years ago :p

This!

Spot on mate, when they lost their way with UT it was all over,

Infinity ward will be next with all this DLC junk, cheaters and no dedis, shame MW2 was biggest selling game ever

Of course! They're just butthurt that UT3 did badly. I'm seeing a trend with games that flop, the devs tend to blame it on piracy rather than accept that they made a crap game and that they have to do better next time, and even if their game was pirated, but also didn't sell well at all, the same still applies.

Your game was so crap that people weren't willing to buy it for the price set by shops.

Wrong. People aren't lazy/simple - they just simply don't have the time or the interest in resolving what are (still!) very real issues with PC gaming. Just look at the majority of threads about games on here - always people having one problem or another, or something not happening as it should. Not everyone enjoys, or has an interest in, PCs like people on these sorts of forums. In fact, the majority don't. Gaming for them is a small part of their lives and when they are faced with often difficult errors/issues to sort out they lose interest..quickly.

err....I have to interrupt here, trying to steer clear of posting in this thread but you need to be corrected. I can see who the console gamer is, basicly if you look at the number of complaints for anything, it's not a large portion of users. MOST people can play pc games just fine without issues on standard drivers. Also PCs have a much bigger gaming library then any console, mainly because of the back catalogue.

As far as cost is concerned, a PC is used for email, web browsing, typing letters, work, gaming, media, storage and all sorts of things. The games are cheaper on a PC and includes the back-catalogue of previous games, something which modern consoles don't have. Consoles are cheaper alone, but the games are more expensive and you have the vast amount of peripherals that you can choose to buy, just like the pc, plus chances are that you will need a bogstandard pc anyway etc...

I know consoles are starting to support some of these multimedia functions, but the more complicated they become the more issues will develop. When you mention CTDs on PCs...the amount of Xbox 360s that red-ring...forgetting them? So then you have to replace the whole console, rather then the gfx card or other piece of hardware that may fail in a PC...

Finally, in response to Admiral Huddy, consoles are simpler and easier to play games on, but not necessarily better. Piracy is just as rife on the xbox 360 as on pc so is basicly just used as an excuse by the game developers to excuse what they do. You are right that it is easier for the developers to develop on consoles then PCs because of the hardware configurations that exist for the PC.

In conclusion, consoles have their place for arcadey games and some other game types, but for rts, fps, mmo and indie games...PC gaming is better imo. :)

Haha. It still plays Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo etc just fine :p

Those were the days :D

Saying that, it brings the mind the stupidity of console developers not bothering to make things backwards compatable. Didn't Sony intentionally withdraw there backwards compatable PS3 so they could force people to buy more PS2s? (or something to that effect)

ID Software Superpack running the original Doom on Quad Core processors is just stupid, gotta love it.

It was surprising what you could do with 2MB RAM and a 33Mhz processor :p

There were a lot of revisions other than the slim, according to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playstation_One

Take a PS3 at £300, add 15 games for £40 a go, you've got £900.

You could build a decent gaming PC for £500, 15 games at £20 each, you've got £800.

PS3 games only cost £40 from the high-street or when they have only been out for about a month. The amount of newish PS3 games that you can get for £15-£25 is always impressive. A very quick copy and paste from a bargain site shows me:

Assasins Creed II - £14.98 PS3 & 360
Uncharted 2 Platinum pre-order £14.73
COD: Modern Warfare 2 *HARDENED EDITION* PS3 £24.98
Dragon Age Origins £12.93 Xbox360/PS3
Halo ODST [xbox 360] £12.93
Blazblue : Calamity Trigger Limited Edition £14.99 (360/PS3)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360) - £17.95
Bioshock 2: Rapture Edition - £17.95 (PS3 & 360)
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ps3/xbox £20.99
Final Fantasy Xiii PS3 £17.99 delivered
Batman: Arkham Asylum (360) £15.95 (seen this for £12.95 somewhere)
Mirror's Edge - Xbox 360 - £2.99

That's without really looking
