with the saphire 5850 toxic edition on sale this week the temptation was too good to turn down.but was it worth paying the extra for this addition?

hopefully i will get noticeable gains especially in bfbc2. but anyway order placed and fingers crossed arrives tomorrow!

Most on here will tell you it was madness to pay for the Toxic as it wont OC (cant adjust voltage).... but it looks better, runs cooler and if you click the link in my SIG, you will see that they can clock quite well :)

I upgraded from an 8800GTS 512, and the difference is there, BFBC:2 runs sweet @1600/900, 16x AF and 4x AA, max settings.

yeah i thought most people would say that but i took into account quieter and cooler running temps, im not too fussed on clocking myself hence why i went for the standard oc edition. though do saphire let you overclock without affecting warranty?

How would they know? It's a slider in software and built into ATI 's control panel. So your safe to overclock it tbh. It's only when people alter the voltage or bios flash it that things become trickier.

Would the Toxic Overclock more than a regular Vapor-X, or is it just pre-clocked and has the same limit?

Depends on how good the HIS £232.99 card's cooler is.

Most people here have been suggesting reference design cards are better because you can flash the bios and overvolt the easily. I disagree. I've been undervolting and underclocking my reference card a notch for a quiet life (previous video card was watercooled, so I'm used to quiet). I've though about selling the reference and buying one of these, but I think £260 is £60 too much.

GTX275s are only about 20% slower than a stock 5850. I've not had one, but the benches had their cooler not much louder than a stock 5850. 2nd hand value on a 275 wouldnt be that bad, so you might consider the move worth it if you want more speed and quieter. You are not missing anything with DX11 though. Dont swap now for that reason.

well according to the saphires description "Vapor-X technology not only allows the card to run up to 15c cooler and 10dB quieter than the standard models" so im happy if it does both, and the card comes as standard OC so no messing about for me, which should also give a bigger boost in comparison to my 275. and not missing out on dx11? well i mise aswel give it a shot, in addition to the fact its one sexy card and it as hdmi so can hook it up to tv im onto a winner. and to top it off i got £125 for my gtx 275 so it was only a £135 upgrade....

To be fair, the OC on the Toxic adds about 1-2fps in most games, you need to get it higher to be actually worth mentioning....

5850 for £135 is a no brainer, it should hit 5870 speeds and that will destroy a 275, even when overclocked it will be cooler running and use less power. Dirt2 looks fantastic in DX11.

fair enough will take it into consideration, will see how i get on first cause if it handles bfbc2 as i would like it to then i wont need to OC any more. but im just excited to get my hands on this beauty now!

It should handle BFBC:2 just fine, even at stock with my Q6600 @ 3.4, It ran great with Max settings 1600/900. You should not be dissapointed with it :)
