So here's my "sensible family saloon."

Don't worry, I'm still keeping the GTR :-D

380 bhp 4 litre V8. Not bad for £2400!

Cool. Interior pics? I also cycle to work and am looking at a toy that would suit the scenario whereby it wouldn't matter if said toy was off the road for days on end.

Absolutely fantastic, great cars :)

I want a pair of those exhaust trims for my XJ8, much better than the oval ones.

2400 quid for an R plate XJR? Wow!

130k miles, Nikasil lined engine and spots of rust m'afraid.

Not bothereed about miles as it's been extremely well looked after, and I think any problems with Nikasil would have reared their head by now.

If you havent done it, get the timing chain tensioners checked, and changed to the metal bodied ones if it still has the old plastic ones.

Also the water pump and thermostat and throttle body, make sure they have been updated.

Lastly, get the gearbox and diff fluid changed, at 130k they are both on borrowed time.

i decided that an xj is going to be my next christmas loafer car. albeit the pansy non super charged one. good buy and such a bargain for a 400bhp beast

How did you get it for this price? Looking at Pisheads, this seems an incredible bargain.

Well, I think its the combo of high miles, nikasil engine and bits of rust.

The MY2000 cars are worth a lot more cause Jag moved to steel bore liners.

I imagine if I get bored of it in a year i'll be able to sell it for the same if not more.

Its daft really because a nikasil engine that has lasted this long, is actually likely to be a stronger engine than a steel lined one.

Hoping so... that was the basis I placed on getting a high mileage Pre-2000 one
Nikasil liners were only problematic a while back when petrol had more sulphur in.

:)

Back when I had the XJ6 I used to eye these up with envy. Then when I had the XJS I used to eye up XKRs with envy. Beautiful things and a nice sounding V8 too.

If only the XJ didn't take up 1.5 parking spaces I'd still have mine.

It's not really something you buy to fling around the B roads on weekends though....?
