Hi all,

I'm heading off to sunnier climes in a few days and want to pick up some Ray Bans. I was originally going to get some in Duty Free but then I read that they're actually nearly as cheap to get in some high street shops now.

Is anywhere particularly cheap?

I read Sunglass Hut do some thing where if you break them in 6 months they give you a second pair half price, so figured that might be a good call.

Any recommendations are much appreciated!

Got mine from Vision Express, 120 without prescription, 200 with prescription and a damage protection plan.

It's so nice to wear sunglasses and not have blurred vision!

it's a shame cos sunglasses shop were doing raybans for cheap yesterday! I saw it on the moneysavingexpert website (obviously telling you this doesn't help, sorry)

The other half is an optometrist. Getting a couple of pairs of prescription Maui Jims this Saturday :).

<3 my Mauis

Also pretty sure Maui Jim pricing is fixed so that whichever dealer you buy from they are all the same. I certainly could not find any price variation in the pair I bought when I bought them.

Any reason you need to buy off the highstreet? Try them on somewhere, get the model and buy online.

This is correct, but we get free samples from the reps trying to get her opticians to sell them :).

Unfortunately I'm leaving on Saturday so didn't really have time for internet bargain hunting...

So as a bit of a follow up, I am now the proud owner of a pair of Ray Ban 8301 Carbon Fibre Silver sunglasses!

I paid £140, which was the cheapest I could find them for (and £16 cheaper than duty free would have been) and ended up buying them from a speciality watch shop. I'm really pleased with them, they're unbelievably comfortable, cut glare brilliantly and from what I've read the carbon fibre will stand up to a good bit of abuse.

One thing I would warn people about is House of Fraser. They were one of the only places to stock them, and wanted a staggering £190 for EXACTLY the same sunglasses. So the moral of the story is, shoe leather = better prices!
