as an aside, the labour party are getting a right slagging off at conference with a boo every time they are mentioned.

There is a mid point, which is the threshold for protected strike action (eg action without tort liability or breach of contract). I'm not convinced we've got the balance right yet, as the BA dispute over nothing contractual shows. (It's roughly the equivalent of tesco staff striking because tesco has decided not to open all the tills).

wtf are you talking about.... i work but i don't have the right to strike. most of the people in this country don't have the right to strike.
i work to make money. if the company i work for inst making money then they make cuts, if that includes me the that's the way it is. why do BA cabin crew have the right to strike?? they don't anymore! its a stupid, redundant, throw, short sighted, communist, pointless etc etc exercise.
why they think they are in any worse situation than the rest of the world makes them deluded. they need to wake up to the real world. cuts need to happen, if they don't BA will fail, then they are all out of work.

Unless there is a no-strike clause legally written into the collective bargaining agreement between a Union and the Employer then the employee have a legally protected right to hold a ballot and if passed hold strike action.
You should get into the REAL world and accept that they do indeed have this right. Whether their reasons are reasonable or not has no bearing in their rights.

Do you expect them to haemorrhage money by employing redundant staff and wasting now redundant services? It's not an 'excuse' it's just business. Do you expect BA to fly a route with 2 passengers and a fully staffed plane? Oh noes, better not cut that route down.....rescission excuse omg!
Some people really do live in a little bubble. Unions have their time, and their place. So many cases of business' making (legal) business decisions, however 'immoral' they appear and however harsh and Unions whining blue in the face about it. Business survival comes before being able to keep on 100% of it's staff in perfect conditions with perfect pay. If BA needs to cut loose half of it's staff to stay afloat they will do just that. Do you somehow think they wont?
BA workers lost perks. PERKS. It seems their terms and conditions are intact, as is their pay. Nobody is forcing them to stay, if they feel they can do better elsewhere and get perks then nobody is stopping them going. Classic case of wanting the cake and eating it. If anything BA workers are holding BA to ransom and attempting to bully the business into folding in to unreasonable demands. They should be counting their lucky stars they have yet to be fired because that will be the likely outcome if workers continue to push this.

What a bore. Before you start spitting bile about extremely overpaid BA workers, perhaps you might want to look into the above figures and how they are compiled (or should that be manipulated) for public digestion? There are so many variables in comparing multiple carrier airlines its pretty much a pointless exercise.
In fact, the quoted numbers do not even reflect the actual average pay. The totals are the cost to BA for each member of staff, taken from the CAA website: (source).
So true. I have a friend who works for Virgin, she tells me the everything considered she earns about the same as BA cabin crew. Her basic is less, but the bonus and inflight payments are more along with other payments she did name but I can't remember adds up to what BA earn in total.

even still its got little to do with it. theres loads of people DESPERATE for jobs. BA and anyone else can afford to be picky.
if those jobs where advertised in the job centre tomorrow, even at lower wages than any other airline their would still be hundreds/thousand of applicants. how much does training cabin staff cost ? is it as much as these strikes are costing them ? doubt it
