So the time has come i think for me to start looking for a new car. I would be trading my '03 plate Cupra R in. Wanted something with similar performance, mpg, boot space etc etc.. As this will be the family car also.

What is your opinion on the ST3 then guys and girls????

Decent car, probably less economical than the LCR, but its probably a more capable car.

Went from a Cupra to an ST3 just recently. Wouldn't go back now.

ST3 is far more comfortable. Not just seats, but it handles bumps a lot better and not so jarring. I travel the same stretch of road day in day out and could tell you every bump, pothole and rough bit there is and I just find the ST3 a lot better.

The seats in the ST3 are sublime though, but don't forget, you only get 4. How that fits in with being a family car for you I don't know. I also managed to get a 5 door, which I know isn't as sporty looking, but like you, I have family concerns.

With regards to fuel, on the above mentioned trip I am averaging 25mpg (it's only 10 miles each way, about 8 of which are DC). The Cupra managed 27.5mpg, so it's not too bad at all. I haven't been on any long motorway trips yet, but don't see it being that much worse.

What's wrong with the LCR? Boredom or does it not meet those criteria?

Also having an ST3 I agree with the above comments.

Handling is better than the Cupra, as is the power delivery and the noise :)

It's getting on a bit now, 7yrs old.......
There is only 3 of us so ST3 is suitable.
Seems it's better value for money than other cars with roughly the same performance.

It is, but is it worth the hassle of changing when it's not going to be a world away from your LCR?

I like the ST but I think you're nuts - you're better off changing when you can afford/want to move to something a lot different.

I agree with Tute. Maybe throw a few hundred at the Leon - remap and uprated suspension may bring it back to life for you
