As title really, seems orange are offering for the same price which I found odd as I thought the Desire was superior? Random side question, does everybody go for insurance on their phones? Im a cheap student and haven't broken a phone yet but havent got a piece of kit like the above before

i have a desire and didnt get the insurance. if i lose it or it gets nicked i'll just get a cheapo one.

the bb bold will have a better battery life as my desire needs charging at least once a day and thats with everything turned off

Blackberry hype! More seriously, try them both out. Don't bother with the insurance but just be extra careful!

Depends on which model Bold...9700 or 9000...the 9700 is a better device than the 9000 thats for certain...

I have both the Desire and 9700 and out of both i prefer my 9700 Bold in all honesty...dont get me wrong i love the Desire but when it comes to serious work ie emailing, texting etc etc my BB 9700 definitely wins hands down....the desire is good, fast but rubbish battery life in all honesty and im not a big huge fan of touchscreens.

Id play with both then decide which one i like and go from there.

the desire has swype which is so much better than the BB bold keyboard

No just no...nothing beats the bold keyboard...FACT.

Ive used Swype on my Desire and found it quite hard to get to grips with it...taken it off now as i find the HTC IME keyboard much more easier.

Definitely use both and decide. The Blackberry is great for the keyboard, but the Desire is a brilliant multimedia phone and if you can deal with touchscreens (most people can) then it has a much better overall package with a pretty decent appstore too.

Definitely get insurance of some kind - a mate had his Desire nicked last week and is heartbroken. Smartphones are very expensive to replace and I couldn't go back to a 'dumbphone' now.

I got used to it and its quality. I think swype set a world record for fastest text message although was on a samsung phone. I hate using the phone without it now

My only niggle with swype is that you couldnt see what letter was being selected while swyping...if they had a pop up option then it would be much better imo.

Personally though nothing beats a hardware keyboard, much more tactile feel to it...on my 9700 i can almost touch type ie not even look at the keys im tapping on.

I also have both a 9700 and the Desire. I swap my Orange SIM between the two. The Desire has a much better camera than the BB, plus the browser and the sheer variety of the apps are great.

In all though, I prefer the 9700. Despite the rubbish apps on the BB and poor browsing experience, the 3 day battery life and physical keyboard for drunken text messaging really make the difference for me. I keep meaning to get rid of the Desire, and will do one day soon.
