Anyone gardening this year if so what will you be growing (food not flower)

Wilkinsons.

It fits 8 15cm pots easily per shelf tho obviously when they get bigger ull have to sort em. I reckon chillies could be trained to grow up through the shelves holes i suppose.

Lunch sorted :D

Rocket
Mizuna
Lambs lettuce
Spring Onion
Radish
Little gem lettuce
and New potatoes

Tomatoes aren't quite ripe yet. :(
Salmon from from Morrisons :D

Wondering if anyone knew owt about strawberries. I have 1 plant in a 12 litre pot i think it was Its got 1 open flower and some im guessing 6 ish buds just under half way of the plant. Just wondering how many to expect and do they grow all year? My type is Pegasus. Not much info about how many it will harvest except heavy cropper which could mean owt to someone who hasnt grown sb before.

Will i have enough to eat this year for myself or would it be best getting another plant or 2 tho space is kinda limited in my 4 tier greenhouse and will get smaller as plants grow larger, especially the tom plants.

Update on my grow stuff. Some chillis tom plants etc.

Didnt know if carrots were coming along or not so picked one. Was tasty too.

Nice work platypus.

Now got 3 butternut sqaush plants to a reasonable size and need re-potting. what size pots will I need? anyone got any ideas.

Are you sure they need re-potting? I've always just thrown squash in the ground after an initial propagation period and it just grows.

Only Just noticed this thread....

Its our first stab at growing stuff and so far we have got growing:

Chillies; Hungarian Hot Wax, Twilight, Ring of Fire, Jalapeno, Fresno, Santa Fe Grande, Slim Cayenne, Serrano, Pimento di Padron

Herbs;Thai Basil, Greek Basil, Mint, Corriander, Parsley, Chives, Thyme, Rosemary

Potato; Anya

The chillies are coming on a treat, almost every seed has grown. :D

Also had some Mushrooms going but only managed to get about 5 before the box stopped cropping

hey guys hoping someone could give me some advice. This is the first time I've grown anything so im pretty much a hapless moron when it comes to taking care of the plants.

I was given 6 strawberry plants brought from a garden centre, have no idea what breed but re-potted them in to 10" pots; 2 to a pot which is where I think I messed up. I potted them using miracle gro all purpose compost that I saw at wilkos and water them whenever the soil goes dry/ mildly damp.

is it getting to crowded in there? Is it too late to do anything about it?

Hi guys.

Just repotted some tom plants and noticed the strawberry plant had some very pink large things under one of its leaves. Also one leaf where they wernt on, i think anyhow, was fading in color.

Any ideas what it may be.

Anyone growing Basil?

Should I be pinching out the top leaves or anything else with this plant yet? Its about 7" tall and has 4 sets of leaves with smaller leaves starting to grow from the stems of the main leaves.

Also when should I start harvesting the leaves and which ones?

Looked on the net but it doesn't really tell you when you should pinch the tops out. Also some guides say do this when the plant is 12cm high and others say it grows to 75cm. Plus I'm sick of hearing Americans pronounce it BAsil and erb :p.

Cheers :)

im growing basil ,chives and corriander in a window box in the kitchen window, havent bothered looking into when you can start eating them or what to do with them though lol.

ill just grow them how they would be in the wild its not like they grow fruit or veg

my basil are like half the size of yours

These are from the seeds I got from the BBC posted on here a while back. Wish I had grown more now, only got the 2 plants on the go.

I was going to just let them grow but then I looked at a guide to see when they were ripe for picking and it said that you should pinch out the tips to make the plant bushier, to get more leaves rather than height. From pictures I've seen they usually look like a small bush rather than a long stalky plant like mine.

Also said that you should pick any flowers off immediately as when the flowers start growing it changes the taste of the leaves. Also helps to put more energy into growing the leaves.
