As title suggests, I've never done a track day, but since buying a proper sports car I think I should... Can anyone recommend which track is best for a first timer?

As you're in the North East I'd suggest Elvington airfield. Fairly cheap, plenty of run off and Javelin who run the track days there are very good so you'll get plenty of track time. The only bad point about it is it's fairly hard on tyres.

If you actually want to go to a track then croft is probably your best bet.

Teesside trackdays are good and only £100. It's very compact but the chap in the gt3 who turned up enjoyed himself!! There's also no pressure to drive above or even near your limits so you shouldn't run into any trouble.

Next one is middle of next month. Google the trackday club, on phone and can't remember the website :p

Cool, thanks I'll check out Elvington and the Teeside place.

Do yo know if either of these are members of either the Association of Track Day Organisers (ATDO) or the Federation of Auto Moto Event Organisers, if they are then my insurance automatically covers me at no additional premium.

Booked my first track day - 9th July at Teesside autodrome. Drop me an e-mail or something if you decide to book up. :)

I did my first track session at Rockingham raceway. Great track for beginners I think.

How do trackdays run at Teeside? Is it single car runs? From having run sprints there the track didn't really seem big enough to be having multiple cars on there at once with overtaking and the like, it is after all just a large kart circuit.

It is a kart circuit but it's got some quality bends up and down the hill.

Yeah it's not great for overtaking but Tim really pushes the rule that if there's something in your mirror, let them by. So you aren't stuck behind people for too long.

I think there's a maximum of 10 cars out on session at once so it's not too crouded. It works really well and overall, everyone who has took part has enjoyed themselves.

This is a friend, Mark in his now crashed Elise (Bike went into the back of him :()

Guess it's a bit easier to pass with the whole of the back straight to play with. When we run the sprints we go around the last chicane bit before the end of the straight.

Im hoping to do teeside, then bedford then castle coombe, before hitting the mighty nurburgring next year :)
