So! Following on from this thread:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18146723

I dropped off the car at Wood BMW this morning at 8am for an oil service and vehicle check.

Car drove there an aboslute dream as you'd expect a 2 year old 36k mile 530d to do!

So, FFWD to 5:00 and I collect the car from Wood, hand over £380 for the privilege and set off.

The car didn't feel quite right, a bit lumpy perhaps but anyway, I drove home. About 2 miles from home I'm waiting at a busy junction and spot a gap and pull out. The car bogs down, plumes of smoke come out the back to the point where you couldn't see anything behind you, car won't rev, no power and smoke in every gear.....

I immediately ring Woods and speak to the service department.

Me: "Hi there, my car was in today for an oil service. Its pouring smoke out of the back, no power and juddering, somthing is obviously amiss"....

Service guy: "Really? We only did an oil service, its highly unlikely that its related"

Me: "What?, are you sersiously saying that my sublime drive to you this morning, your oil change, and my car now pouring out smoke are not related?"

Service guy: "Yes......all our technicians have gone home now so I suggest you ring BMW Emergency Assistance if the car is still under warranty"

Me: "ok, I will"

I pulled up outside home and rang BMW EA. They are delvering a car to me now but as I waited, I pulled up the iDrive menu to find this:

I can't wait to show the service guy that photo!!!

Anyway, the car is being recovered back to Woods.

Other than soaking the insides of my turbo, CATs, Particulate filters and exhaust with Oil, what long term damage might have been done?

I also expect a full refund on that service, is that unreasonable?

I'm a little pee'd off right now........

I learnt many years back that the first thing to do after a service is check the oil level. BMW dealers are simply awful at getting the oil level right, I have had them do it again more than once! You should speak to the service manager and if you get nowhere the DP and I would except NOTHING less than a total and complete refund.

I would be wanting a refund and a good will gesture as well as an undertaking to put right anything that might go wrong.

Makes you wonder if its worth paying the extra money for a higher marque car, it really does but they all get you with the warranty and needs to be serviced at XYZ

That's absolutely terrible. As well as what you've listed there's a good chance it could have blown some of the engine seals. I wouldn't be surprised if you don't get a new engine out of BMW.

It could well have happened if they sucked the old oil out (leaving a couple of litres still in there) and just measured out the new oil quantity and didn't check the dip stick after.

How did they manage to over-fill if they drained the engine first?

If they were topping up I could see how it would be easy to do, those digital oil gauges have terrible update rates.

BMW dealers suck as a rule in my experience. This just emphasise the point.

What did the emergency breakdown guy say. I found they just sit on the fence and say nothing. My car went in for issues with the thermostat not sitting in the middle. I was told it was normal etc. Called emergency breakdown and they replaced the themostat on the drive. I told him I took it in to BMW and they said no fault found and he simply said nothing!

Total rod strokers.
