I downloaded Bejeweled as shareware along with Big Money and Tip Top waaaay back in April 2003. It was off Popcap, which is a competitor to the old MSN Gaming Zone. They were all quite good. Big Money had rather funky music, while Bejeweled kinda stems from the old Sega Columns game. That was where you had to match falling blocks by colour rather than by shape i.e. Tetris.

I don't play Facebook games and I'm hardly on that site, but I'm hearing from FB punters that there is a bit of a Bejeweled revival going on in there. I don't know how well known it was in 2003 (I thought it was fairly obscure like most of my shareware/freeware) but is there any idea how it suddenly got famous 7 years later?

It's not the same Bejeweled from 2003, I don't think. I've played Bejeweled on FB, it's called Bejeweled Blitz.

Ahhh right. I just tried to install the version in my screenshot. It ran long enough for me to know that it is version 1.5 then it bailed out complaining about a missing file, so I guess it's not 64-bit compatible. It's not a great loss though, as I don't think I played it since the shareware time ran out anyway :-D

I have the original version on Steam, works fine under Windows 7 64-bit. It is v1.87.

I can't stop playing Bejeweled 2 on the iTouch since they added the Blitz mode. Initially they had gold medals (250 scores) up to 250K now they've got medals for scores up to 500K. I've managed the former but I'll never achieve the later. Only up to 98 @ 300K so far with 15 @500K
