No chance to use it outside yet, where has the sun gone!?

Edit: Backfocuses a tad :( Although nothing a 7D won't fix :)

When do you ever use a 70-200 to shoot something so close! Makes any minor front/back focus a total none issue.

Buggers, I'm currently about 5 minutes of half heated convincing away from deciding I can sort of afford (i can't at all) the non IS version of this lens. Least I won't be able to add bragging rights on OcUK as a reason to have it now lol

Nice, very nice indeed.

Because from experience it magnifies the further way it is. It's a % out not a fixed "2cm behind" thing.

And back focus is when you lock onto a target and the actual depth of focus field is slightly behind the intended point of focus. [Or indeed could be front focusing which is the same, but forwards, obviously]

For example using the bottom two F6.3/F11 images, the 3rd battery along is more in focus than the point of focus which was the 2nd battery (these arn't quite 100% crops, which is a bit pointless actually thinking about it!).

Probably not critical but when you start spending big money, want it to be perfect, no? ;)

Cheers for that, I've been up all night working so my eyes are very tired but I'd say in that bottom shot the 2nd battery looks more in focus than the 3rd and i'm 50/50 on the one above it. As you say they are not 100% crops but it looks pretty good to me.

Concorde, if you wasn't happy with that focus being slightly out would you microadjust it or leave it as is? If you microadjust it does that then throw your other lens out? Would you have to reset for each lens?

The 7D can be set to apply the adjustment to all lenses or only to individual lenses. Quite handy really.

I think the 50D, 5D mkII, 7D, 1Ds mkIII and 1D mk III all have micro adjustment. Oh and the 1D mkIV!

Annndd here is my second one!!

First impressions: Screen is VERY good, shutter is quieter than the 40D, feels good in my hand (but will be gripped).

Waiting for the battery to charge and then i'll update the firmware and then i'll post some comparisons with my 40D if everyone would like that?

Nice, I did like my 7D. If you can, try out the grip first, it is quite wide at the bottom to accomodate the two batteries and isn't as comfortable as perhaps you'd expect.

Concorde a question, I am in the market for a 70-200 lens and I'm undecided over the 2.8 or 4 IS. What made you go for the 4 over the 2.8?

Purely the money or weight as well. I really fancy the 2.8 through the range for candid pictures of the family etc.

I just can't find a store yet in cambridge with both the lens to physically pick up and play with. I wish I could get both but for now it has to be one or the other. Any good shots yet, you said you would post some comparisons. I would like to see the DOF with that increased focal distance on the F4 :)

If it were me I'd go for the f/2.8 - the extra stop means you can use it in lower light levels, throw the background further out of focus and you get better AF performance.

The reason to go for the f/4 is if you need to travel light. In which case it's a much better choice because it's half the weight!!!

whoa , what are you going to use that lens for? :D mahoosive!!

Wheres the Gaffer? :p (photo: Mr. Jones :D )

That thing dwarves a 300mm 2.8. The 300 dwarves the 70-200 f/4... :)
