I want pick some bits up for my build today what brand of RAM should I be looking at?

Its DDR3 1333 i'm after, i'm a bit wary of Corsair as I had a stick go pop on me and RMA'ing it was difficult to the point that I gave up

I have GEIL at the moment but bought it as a cheap temporary measure

Also a bit confused with CAS, I think its just a case of the lower the CAS figures the better but I read it doesnt matter that much on DDR3?

Thanks

A few people have been having trouble with OCZ lately, and it's the only brand I've had to RMA. I'm running Geil Black dragon at the moment and it's been great - I'm not sure why it doesn't get much of a mention on here.

Yeah I read about some OCZ issues, I dont really think i'll go OCZ

GEIL seems hard to find, only the value stuff seems to be about, they do a 1333 kit but I cant find it on OCUK website, or anywhere else for that matter :(

All I can find is Corsair XMS3 and its over £100 I reckon I can get another brand that does the same thing but cheaper

Seeing as though the mobo is STILL out of stock I guess there is no rush but would be nice if I can make my mind up on what I want

I just rmaed an OCZ ddr3 pair yesterday to clockers, No swearing please. Fully star them out -VS- made a mess of my set up because it was very obsecure to diagnose,
Not an atypical set of bsod's from memtest and p95 errors. I bought a replacement Geil Black Dragon kit and havent looked back , top notch quality
and since they test like a stick from every batch you can feel safer buying from them... So gogo get the the black dragon dual channel kit

Where from man I cant find them on OCUK's website or am I being thick?

I have used OCZ for a number of years, only had to RMA one pair, and their returns service is first class.

Mushkin is another good brand to go for, although they might be hard to get a hold of as I haven't seen many places stocking them.

OCZ here, nearly RMA'd mine, but found it was a GPU causing problems.

All fine though, great memory :)

which ones are you looking for? also, about the CAS - the latency is a higher number of clock cycles, but a shorter amount of actual time, because of the increased frequency. so yes, the number of clock cycles is less significant, as each cycle represents less time. It would still be worth getting the lowest latency possible though.

I'm after the 1333 CAS8's better value than the Corsair CAS9's

mobo still not in stock so no problems waiting

Only brands I've used in recent yeaqrs has been corsair, Geil and recently GSkill.
I'd vouch for both corsair and Geil being very reliable in that I've never had to RMA any over multiple builds.

the GSkill I bought from MM and has been problem free since I received it

I have been using some plain old crucial sticks and they work a treat. Memory heatsinks don't help and are a gimmick so don't buy some RAM for the heatsinks.

Hey Relentless81,

I wouldn't worry too much about which brand of memory you choose, just pick the set which appeals to you personally and are selling at the right price . . .

They will most likely work fine but due to the nature of the PC hardware beast you could get unlucky and get a set which are either DOA or have errors . . . in the case of a new set of RAM being faulty you will be dealing with the shop you purchased them from . . . should they develop faults after one year then your most likely gonna be dealing with the memory manufacturers RMA service . . . in case of the latter point then I suppose it's worth finding out which brand offers the quickest and easiest RMA! :)

Nothing to see here . . . move along please!
