Hi all,

I recently decided to shortern my bars by about an inch each end, and whilst doing so, I had to loosen up the brake levers. One of the bolts proved to had been tightened way too much by the shop (where I got the bike on a cycle to work scheme) so I ended up ruining the head. In the end I had to drill the bolt out, so now I am looking for a replacement.

The brake levers in question are some avid Juicy Three SL's (standard for the bike) and I cannot for the life of me figure out what bolt size they are or source them. So far I have tried an M5 and an M6, and niether of these fit. The size I need is somewhere inbetween.

Anyone got a clue what size and where the heck I could source these from?

Cheers

If you want to bodge it you could cut a groove into the bolt big enough for a flat-head screwdriver and tighten it carefully. I did this just a couple of days ago after buying some 2nd hand brakes off ebay and it's been fine so far.

This is usually good enough for brake lever clamps because you dont want them too tight anyway, but he said he had to drill the bolt out so probably not possible in this case.

Are you sure it isnt a standard size? I know that juicy 5s use normal M5 bolts.

Thanks for the link. Funnily enough I have just placed an order with them as I managed to find a spare parts list for the lever and got the product code. I google search later and I came across that site selling the none split lever bolts.

Avid and their none standard bolts eh! Who'd have thunk it?!

Some other chap at single track was also moaning about none standard bolts...

Bolts tuned up today... and guess what... they have sent the damn wrong ones! ARGH! Since when does a bag that says 2 pcs on it, contain 4 bolts?!?
