Noticed a sidewall bulge in one of my front tyres this morning. Had 2 replacements in my garage so I took it to the only garage that I could find open on a Saturday afternoon.

The tyres are BMW runflats on 18" e60 alloys, but the garage didn't imply that fitting them would be any problem.

I'm glad I stuck around to watch because after inspecting their work on the first tyre I decided to leave - they're scratched all around the rim of the alloy :( So now I've got one new tyre, and one worn tyre with a bulge which I'm going to have to try and book in at a BMW specialist on Monday morning.

Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for getting something like this refurbed?

Thanks Budjet Exhausts & Tyres, Lowe St South, St. Helens, WA10 2QU  (yes, I know, the name should have given it away but I was desperate).

I assume you pointed out the fresh damage to the tyre fitters at the time and they are paying to have it refurbished?

There are loads of garages around here which can fit tyres on a Saturday, I have used Wigan tyres before and found them excellent. You can have a gander at his racing motorbike and stuff while you wait too.

They told me in the middle of the job that they were having difficulty and that the machine might end up scratching it. By that time they'd already removed the old tyre so I didn't feel that I had much choice but to let them continue.

Partially my fault I guess. Lesson learned :(

Budjet Exhausts & Tyres, Lowe St South, St. Helens, WA10 2QU gave you a bad experience you say?

So would you say to avoid Budjet Exhausts and Tyres, because they did a bad job?

Wouldn't it be a shame if people's web-searches for Budjet Exhausts and Tyres St. Helens came up with a result which suggested that they weren't good?

Rofl

Budjet Exhausts and Tyres, werent able to sort you out with a good service?

I certainly won't be going back to Budjet Exhausts and Tyres, Lowe St South, St. Helens, WA10 2QU for tyres or tyre fitting, neither would I go for an exhaust, MOT, or servicing :p

On the bright side, refurbing doesn't seem TOO expensive from the quotes I've got so far, and the wheel did already have a bit of kerbing so it's a good excuse to get it done.

I got mine done at a place round here, had them popped off the rims for a home refurb... when I had them put back on one needed a bead seal so came off and went back on. Knocked some paint off two out of four wheels, and when he redid the other I said 'won't that need balancing?' and he said er nah should be alright. More like you can't be arsed to get the adapter out for centreless wheels :/

When I took them somewhere to have them balanced up that wheel was 95 grams out of balance :/

Budjet?

I wouldn't step near the place, even if I was desperate with spelling like that for a company name.

Lesson learnt as I said, I obviously underestimated the complexity and possibility for disaster of fitting a tyre.

On another note, can anyone enlighten me as to what a "diamond cut finish" is in relation to alloy wheels and whether my stock M-Sport 18" wheels are likely to have this?

So is that Budjet Exhausts and Tyres, Lowe St South, St. Helens, WA10 2QU that we aren't supposed to go to? Or Budget Exhausts and Tyres, Lowe St South, St. Helens, WA10 2QU? I mean, I'm easy either way....:)

Personally, if Budjet Exhausts and Tyres, Lowe St South, St. Helens, WA10 2QU ruined my wheel like they did yours, I wouldn't have left until they had written me a cheque, or at very least a written guarantee that the problem would be rectified.

They should have known whether they can manage wheels/tyres of that size before undertaking the job.

The other trouble is though, at the point that they said they might scratch it (which was far too late), I would have said to them that they agreed to take the job on, and that they should complete it as expected, without scratching the wheel or they will be paying for it.

In the situation you're in now? I'd phone the garage back up, explain how much the quote was to have the wheel refurbished and tell them that unless they agree to cover the costs that you'll be contacting any garage network they may be a part of (if you're lucky they will be) and/or trading standards.

I always tell the tyre place I use that the wheels are undamaged before they start so they come out and check before they are even removed.

I wouldn't be very happy with Budjet Exhausts and Tyres, Lowe St South, St. Helens, WA10 2QU and would go back and see what they say. You have nothing to loose now they have ruined your wheel.
