Me and my girlfriend are going on holiday tomorrow and as we've decided to avoid airline food, we are wondering what the rules with taking your own food onboard are?

I am aware of the liquids situation so had planned just to buy drinks when we are through the security checks, but what about bringing food from home? I have searched the net and can't seem to find any conclusive information so any advice would be very helpful!

Cheers, Rob.

As far as I'm aware, no problem, just make sure you've eaten any fresh food before your destination if it's another country which might have rules about the import of fresh foods.

I won't drink the water or anything thats come from the galley either. I buy a couple of large bottles of water just before I get on the plane.

No reason for there to be any rules so long as it's identifiable if Security ask what it is. Just remember to avoid liquids (technically that includes spreads/pastes etc. so I won't comment on the practicalities of using butter in your sandwiches :)) until you're air side and either eat or bin it before you land (if in another country).

Why would there be any rules about taking your own food with you?

I always make a couple of sandwiches at home before flying.

Great, so we've had shoe bombers, liquid bombers and now we're going to get packed lunch bombers.

Meh, take whatever you want on board. I notmally take a Pizza to eat with me and a large bottle of fresh orange juice from the Pret. :D

Food in hand luggage isn't a problem but some countries won't allow you to bring in meat or fruit so you'd have to eat it before landing. We were told to eat or bin any fresh food before getting off the plane in the US but there were no comments on our return flight yesterday so I guess you can bring anything home.

Bring a laptop onboard. Once airborne, boot it up and make sure that a few people can see it. Before bringing it onto the plane, download this onto your hard drive. When the time's right, launch it full screen!
