I live in a city centre first floor flat, and I've had a lovely kitty for a few weeks now. Obviously this means keeping the windows closed, or only open a crack so she doesn't try to jump out! With the warm weather, I'm melting, so want to find a solution.

I've seen a few mesh screens, but they all look pretty flimsy. Has anyone used any of the made for purpose products, or found another solution?

This is who you're protecting by helping :D

You'll have to do what I do and open the window slightly and trap the handle in the frame so you have at least a two inch gap of fresh air without the need for suicide kitty.

It's first floor, so she'd probably be able to safely jump down but wouldnt be able to get back in!

Oh, they're sash windows. I can open the top bit by a few inches, but she could probably open it further if she was determined enough

They are flimsy but it stops my cat at least, it's never tried to break through it. And at £5-£10 it's worth a shot.

Oh I see, you'll have to go the window mesh route then really.

aaw... 'wistful cat is wistful'

oh, and what ^TANK^ said. Works for my cat. Speaking of which he's doing his best slug-beast impression next to the castors on my swivel chair; he likes to live on the edge.

But seeing as you've just mentioned sash windows as I previewed the above, forget it lol :p

Put a length of wood (or whatever) in the runner of the sash to stop the top pane sliding down any further.

You might find that in 2 or 3 years time, the cat won't want to go outside. Ours got out once and spent 3 days outside on a 4 lane main road. We got her back, and now she never goes out again. She sits on the door step or window ledge but that's as far as she wants to go. Something must have really scared her in those 3 days

Yeah, a lot of noisy cars shooting by.

I bet he "reprimanded" the cat as soon as he found it. Must have been one hell of a reprimand to stop the cat from ever leaving those four walls.

Probably got violated by some great big nasty cat's who fancied some fresh meat :D

I hope your cat escapes and gets taken in by someone with a ground floor front door tbh.
I think keeping a "house cat" is rather cruel, akin to keeping a human in a cage from birth. Saying they don't know any different is irrelevent surely?
Doesn't the fact that she may want to get out make you feel guilty?
Still, who cares about the cat as long as you get pleasure...
