Just turned 16 yesterday and i knock of school at the end of next month for 6 weeks or somthing and was wondering wheres the best places to go and ask for a part time job in the summer?.

My dad says that theres no point unless its cash in hand because he would have to inform the child tax credit offices and they will stop my child tax credit because im working and ill only be making enough to cover what they give my dad but im going back to school in august so its only for six weeks is this true?.

Thanks.

16 years was one of the best summers of my life.

Don't worry, you've got plenty of years to start work and hate life.

Enjoy the fact you've left school and go and get high and climb hills, or something.

Ive not left school yet i just need to make some quick cash because ill be doing a costly computer project, ive got £1000 saved up at the moment but still need a lot more.

Dont waste your money or your summer, go on holiday with your mates or something :)

Your sig says Summer 2K10.

I assure you it won't be memorable if you work and build a computer. Go have fun.

Im not wasting my money and my friends have started getting into heavy drinking every second day, smoking and drugs, its just not my thing Imo so ive got nothing better to do i love working with my hands in jobs and such rather than using them to roll splifs and buzz lighterfluid.

...seems crazy to me! Why not spend half as much, but still have a ~project~... and also do something active? Anyway, not all your friends will be crazy wasters, surely? Some would be up for gym/tennis/squash/pool/football/swimming/whatever, no?
*American football ftw...[/QUO

Yes all of my friends are wasters i live in a bad area.

Its my money and ill do what i want with it, its better spending it on drink eh?, and ive always wanted to bulid somthing xtream since i was 12 and now i can proberly get the money togither to do it so i will.

I am very active i love training i used to go to the gym a few days a week but they were wanting silly money so i join boxing and go running 2-3 times a week.

Can anyone just help me with my OP please :P

Does your dad pay you the child tax credits? If not tell him to go **** himself tbh... He doesn't exactly sound like a great person - is happy for you to lose out and not get a job because it might cost him though is fairly blase about letting you commit tax evasion.

Go get a job tbh... join a temping agency or just apply direct to firms doing stuff you might be interested in doing in future. Gets you exposure to a particular area to help decide if its for you or not, gives you relevant work experience for your CV and earns you money.

Niiiice - teach em early - 'Dont work son unless its cash in hand or they'll stop the benefits!'

if i was you i would just go somewhere... you got 1k already.. waste it around in 6 weeks live for a bit.. as someone said enjoy while you can.. it won't be like that for ever.. im 19.. and im coming to a "boring" life by the looks of it.. job soon.. 5-6 days working a week.. no fun dude..

Changing tact after reading more of what you've said.

First and foremost tell your dad it doesn't matter about child tax credits because you want to work and earn your own money. If he doesn't see that as a valid reason for wanting to work then that's a fault on his part.

Getting a job in a supermarket or local shop is probably going to be easiest. For supermarkets go in or phone up and ask them how to apply. For a local shop just drop in and say you're looking for some work. You could always look for cash in hand work helping local gardners or light labouring for family/friends or similar sort of work. Some restaurants might employ you but that work will be pretty awful - washing pots and pans in steaming hot kitchens is far from fun.

It's up to you what you spend all your money on but a suggestion would be, aside from building your pc, how about spending some money on a decent bike? You say you like running and boxing so you're probably pretty fit. The summer is perfect for getting out and going away cycling for the day. Even pick up a tent and go camping for a bit.

I assume you are you going back to school or college after the summer?

If so, I think you may be able to work "properly" without affecting a child tax credit. Try contacting the CAB and enquiring.

EDIT: In fact, if you remain in "full-time education or approved training" (so you are intending to return to school or go to college in September), then I am certain you can work without impacting their claim.

Ive got a good bike as it is :D I cycle down to my mums some weekends which is about 30-40 mile, used to go camping but my dads too old fro it now, pitty this would have been a great year for spending a few weeks at lochlomond.

Computer buliding and some games level desiging eg crysis sandbox, is what i want to do as a job because i am REALY intrested in this kind of stuff.

Theres nothing i really want to spend my money on (was going to buy a tv but decided not because the only thing i watch is shameless and phone jacker) besides that because gaming and computer use is an everyday think i do.

My dad was just saying that if i worked and the taxes stoped i would have to give him dig money and there would be no point in earning money if im not making a profit.

I think some people need to re-read the OPs posts in this thread, stop telling him not to spend his money how he wishes to spend it, stop telling him he needs to "enjoy it while he can" because that is exactly what he is doing!!

Everyone makes their own life choices, i did a similar thing when i was 16 and certainly don't regret it, i thoroughly enjoyed building computers and just hanging out with a select few friends now and again rather than going out and mixing with the wrong people (which would only result in ****ing the money up the wall and damaging your health)

Exactly. :D

I think it is very good of you to want to go out and earn your money; But you have a life of going out to work ahead of you, so enjoy the little of the chain free life you have left. Get out, enjoy the sun and make sure it's a very memorable summer.

Working will turn it into "just another summer". I wish I didn't work through the summer holidays.
