Hi guys,

I am bored of my iphone 3g and have been waiting for the 4g. But since looking at the demos of os4 and pics of the phone on gizmodo I have not been too impressed.

Used my friends Desire tonight and it was excellent and I am seriously considering just getting one of those now whilst i can still get a good price for my 3g. Would people recommend this move?

Main question though, who is the best carrier to go with in uk these days or specifically for Desire?

Thanks all

Well tbh the real only advantage the iphone has over the Desire is the array of apps...the android isnt quite as good but otherwise its a much much better phone and is open to customisations etc without having to hack it like you do with the iphone ie jailbreaking etc.

As for networks??..well a lot of people have gone with tmobile because they give either 1 gb or 3gb internet useage whereas Voda and Orange are only 500mb and Voda are now going to be charging if you go over that limit....tbh 500mb is a bit measly especially if you are streaming radio stations. Not sure about O2, i dont know what their fair useage is.

Also consider which network will give you the best reception where you live...tmobile can be flakey at times, same with O2 etc.

Well O2 is seemingly really bad at the moment for me and my brother who live in this student house. Used to be fine but now txts dont send half time just get an error, calls dont dial, when you are on phone people constnatly breaking up etc.

Have been looking around and definately seems like tmobile are the popular choice, have found them on mobiles.co.uk where can gaurantee an unbranded phone which is tempting but may go tmobile shop tomorrow and see what they offer. Then call O2 and see what they say if i want to cancel.

Gonna be so gutted though after waiting so long for iphone 4g if it comes out and completely trashes the androids.

It wont..mainly due to the fact that no matter what sort of fancy hardware the iphone gets...its still a closed OS and you are controlled by what you can do and cant do by Apple...Android is much more open than that...do whatever you want on your phones etc.

Good point actually i forgot about the whole 'flash' problem with apple aswell. Is annoying tryin to look at a website only to have big chunks missing.

Orange Panther tariffs are 750MB under a fair use policy, they don't charge if you go over. But on Dolphin its a hard cap, and they do charge if you go over. That's how I think it is anyway.

Notice that none of you are suggesting 3 - are they still awful? I heard they'd improved.

Their 3g network is the same as T-mobile (joint owned) but their data limit is now 500gb and £5 to add 2gb data to the limit. They call it unlimited internet plus £5 unlimited internet because they're idiots who have decided to push the boundaries of false advertising.

When you lose 3g signal then the phone should roam to Orange GPRS.

Their phone support will make you want to kill small animals to retaliate for their lies.

So, yes their network has improved, their customer service has not.

Also consider which network will give you the best reception where you live...tmobile can be flakey at times, same with O2 etc.

Remember though that by the end of the year T-Mobile and Orange will be sharing masts, so if the coverage is set to become the best of all the networks (and Orange obvs)

This 3gb limit from tmobile, is that actually enough for an android per month? If i like to stream videos when I am out etc will i demolish that cap or is it higher than i think?

Going to make the plunge today possibly but worried about these caps that i dont have with my iphone on o2.

Yep, the guys in the O2 store and 2 of their phone staff have told me so.

I was told by O2 customer services the other day that it depends on your normal usage. They said it was "about 3GB a month", but you could get away with more. He also said "if you use 3GB in a week, then we get concerned".

I'm not saying your wrong or anything. Just a different story from a different customer services guy.

From both our experiences, I would say it's possible you can use 20GB, provided it's distributed evenly over the month... would you agree?

So could you tether and have no problems with them?

No, tethering (unless you pay the extra tethering fee) and P2P is not technically allowed, but physically possible..

Sundance, that sounds like their "not adversely affecting other users" sub-policy, so yeah I agree with that.

Keep in mind the network sharing bwteen orange and t-mobile will be happening VERY soon

The Three network is pretty good as it roams onto Orange if no Three mast is available, but once Orange & T-mobile merge, Three phones will be able to use 3 different masts and should improve coverage further.
