i passed my test end of jan and got my car insured and stuff in march,i only went out a few times with my dad in car and once with sum1 from work and once on my own,but i haven't been driving for weeks. When i had lessons i was very nervous and hated going out for a lesson, but i still passed my test thinking it would get better, but to be honest i still feel so nervous and panic before driving.I haven't drove in about 5 weeks,i haven't really had a need to use car too be honest but when i do fancy going somewhere which i would need to drive too i just put it off.I am normaly very laid back person but when it comes to driving it turns me into a nervous wreck lol, anyone got any advice, apart from saying man up or sell up ect lol

Well you have passed a UK driving test and this means the instructor thinks you are safe enough to drive on our roads.

Stop being a woman and just drive.

You realy SHOULDNT be feeling nervous when driving it should be natural. Quite frankly if you are feeling un easy and nervous you are probably quite dangerous and shouldnt even be thinking about driving. What if you cause an accident?

I was a teeny weeency bit nervous with an instructor and on my final test, but once I got into my own car alone it was bliss.

Not knowing what the area you live in is like, I suggest driving in off peak traffic hours and find somewhere quiet to drive around.

That is of course, if you're like me and you enjoy driving for the hell of it and not always just to get somewhere.

I can drive fine i think, its not actualy the driving that i am having bother with its just when i am driving ,i dont enjoy it because i feel like i am on a knifes edge all the journey and when i know i am driving home i cant enjoy where i am at because i know i gotta drive back.I have spoken to a few people and they all say you just gotta get out and drive thats only way to over come it or they just laugh

Have you tried having a drink before you drive? Don't go crazy but a couple of glasses of wine or a few whiskeys should give you some Dutch courage and allow you to drive calmly and safely.

Steer clear of beer though - I believe that drinking beer when driving is illegal in uk.

You cannot be serious?
Even if you are, you shouldn't take the risk, imagine you get breathalised do you really want to hope it picks up just under?
Personally been witness to "I haven't had much but chances I'll get pulled over is rare" for a few minutes later to drive into a desginated spot check. Ahha chances.
(They were under limit).

I was still a bit nervous after passing my test, it soon goes as you become more confident when out and about :)

Try to get out there and drive, use off-peak or quiet roads as mentioned if you don't like the idea of lots of traffic.

Think everyone is a little nervous, you may have passed the test but you still have very little driving hours under your belt on a large scale of things, just get out there and start driving, could do so in the evening when roads are clear. Practice make perfect and all that, it will be second nature to you in a couple of months. I haven't touched a car for around a year after passing so was a little nervous too, but build up my confidence quickly by just driving around places and was then driving the work vans with confidence weeks later :)

For me it was odd at first just being on my own but the main thing is that you aren't going to feel confident if you hardly drive. Go for a drive every day.

I was driving 40 mins to work the same route there and back so soon got used to it.

Yeh driving some regular routes helps, as soon as I passed I drove to school and back everyday and then to 3/4 friends houses in the same town so got used to driving.

Also did pass plus, but only for the insurance discount!

My best friend's mum assures me that she would have never passed her test if it wasn't for the assistance of mellow Mr. Gin. No reason why it might not work in this situation!

As above you need to just get on with it. It'll be the norm and going down certain roads to your house everyday will start to annoy you and then you'll wonder why you wanted to desperately drive so much! (Or is that just me? ha!)

Driving should never be a chore as that's when the can't be bothered attitude starts and accidents happen. Once you are confident with it you will enjoy it. By spending a few weeks just going out for a drive will do wonders. Start with quiet times then move to rush hour and school run times when you are more confident.

Also do some night driving as when winter starts, you will be plunged into driving on dark wet roads so getting used to the will be a benefit before it's a necessity to drive on them.
