HI.

Just a quick question.

I have a single 5770 which works well, but i can't play a game while having a film playing at the same time, it resizes the game when the film is launched.

What i am thinking of doing is buying a second 5770 to crossfire when using just games but also so i can run the cards seperately when i want to play a game from one card and run the hdmi from the second card so i can also then watch a film at the same time.

Would this work ok..?

Wish I had the skills to do both at the same time. I spend all my time not getting shot and you two are watching movies.....what am I doing wrong :)

Technically it will work but you will not be able to use the second monitor while running crossfire as they both hav to be plugged Into the same card when crossfire is active, with crossfire disabled you can run the monitors on independant cards. Can you not just start the film running And then start a game so it won't resize? Iv done it before but iv used the hdmi output for films while gaming. Also you might find it stutters very occasionally if the CPU is running flat out in a game if your using a dual core.

I'm assuming you have a dual screen setup, right?

If so, I would suggest using a media player that allows you to make it "always on top" (I use KMplayer and it works great, MPC should also be fine) and run your game in "borderless window mode".

That's exactly what I was thinking. I run a number of games in window mode so I can still see what's on the other screen. You will have to alt tab to get out of the game to interact with the other monitor.

Yeah i tried that but it's not the setup i really want....

I would prefer to have one screen independant of the other just my personal preference i guess. As for the crossfire comment, yeah i realise that it uses both cards for crossfire which i can use for games only, but often the kids like to watch a film, or even somtimes mee to which is why i thought running them independantly would be a good idea.

As for the processor mine is a q6600 so should be ok.

By the way it's not a dual screen setup, the films are played on my HDTV 32" 1920x1080 and the games are on my monitor 22" 1680x1050

I'm sorry, I don't understand. The method I described above would use the monitors (TVs, whatever) in extended desktop or Dualview mode. This means the windows desktop is extended over the full size and resolution of both screens. Is that not what you want?

Again, I don't understand - how is this not a dual screen setup? The 32in may be technically a TV - but it is still a screen, when used with a computer.

Perhaps I am missing something here.

In not a dual screen in the sense that i don't use both screens for one picture or want to. I would like both screens to work independantly, one for films and the other for games.

Sorry, I think we are both aiming for the same thing but using different terms.

In dual screen (using "extended desktop") the monitors do work independently. If you maximise a window or Full0-screen a video it only fills the screen of the active monitor, not stretching it across both.

Therefore, if you set the video player to "always on top" and full-screened it on the HDTV - then you would be looking at a video playing on size of the TV. Even if you click on the other monitor the video on the HDTV remains full-screened and unchanged. After you have done this you can then load up a game and ensure in the configuration/setting that "borderless window" mode is active. This means it will appear to be full-screen on the monitor - but it will not "black out" the HDTV as it would if the game was running in normal full-screen mode. To access the video controls and change something on the video - simply alt-tab to the video player and then alt-tab back into game.

How does that sound?
