My bedroom gets insanely hot! What can I do?

:D

My bedroom and main workspace is in my loft -_- , Which happens to have full heat insulation :o . I have both velux windows wide open , a fan at max speed and an air-con unit all working , and I STILL cannot get the room cool. Turning off the pc makes very little difference..

Think i've found your problem ;)

Exactly, air con is terribly inefficient if you have your window/s open, get a window kit for your air con or make a hole through the wall or even window if you have too, but keep those windows closed/sealed if your using air con, it will work ten times better, also draw the curtains, if your room is to dark then get thinner curtains, I have a south facing room and I keep my curtains drawn all summer but they still let a lot of light into the room but stop direct sun light heating my room up as much, if you get thin yellow curtains for example you'll get a nice happy glow in your room so it's not as depressing while they are drawn and the sun is out.

That's on maximum setting at a distance of 1m, the sound pressure decreases via the inverse square law.

The frequency of the generated noise is more important though, and also subjective.

I've gone through great lengths to get my pc as quiet as possible on air, and the low frequency rumble I have managed to get is inaudible to me in bed. Even just having my speakers plugged in drawing power creates a hum that makes it hard for me to sleep, so aircon is a no go for me, as are fans.

lol, theres not a lot of point cooling air down then replacing all the cool air, with hot air from outside, you have to almost seal your room up for aircon to work.

Houses aren't made particularly well for airflow and cooling. In mideastern, mediterranean countries you get houses built in a square, with a courtyard in the middle, its so pretty much every room can have windows at opposite sides and somewhere for the air to go, cool courtyard in the middle where the air can escape freely out the top.

Insulated houses with lots of shut doors, heavy insulation and bad designs for air to flow through don't work so well. On the very worst days of the year, those horrible days its massively humid and can hit 35C in a house(not very often, we'll open the front door, jam it open and let air go through the house, but while you might feel safe doing that 50 years ago(I wasn't alive then, but old people always say they left doors unlocked, and with more community spirit/friendliness) I don't feel comftable doing that now.

My room is like a little radiator, hot computers, south facing wall, flat roof above, east facing wall that gets sun till a bit after midday, hot water storage tank, big slabs of concrete patio outside in the garden that absorbs sun all day so theres a radiator right outside my room, just horrible in general.

Would love to, someday, have enough cash to build my own house, designed from scratch, in a mediterranean square style with great airflow(hmm, house sized computer case design building with uber big slow fans?) and actually designed from the ground up with central AC in mind for when it gets to hot.

I turned my PC off overnight... helped a LOT

Windows are open (all over the house, not just 1... that doesnt work)

I'll be digging my fan out of the loft if it gets much hotter :D

You need one of these:

Man those slabs are terrible for collecting heat, I remember reading a story a while back about a guy that does astro-photography using a very expensive outdoor telescope, he had concrete slabs surrounding the foot of the telescope and for months he was scratching his head as to why his pictures wasn't as clear as they should be, in the end he found out that it was the heat rising from the slabs, even though he was doing his photography at night they where still giving off enough heat that they had collected during the day to effect his photo's.

Random story but hey.

I tend to find that the noise produced by ac systems is a much less annoying frequency than computer fans and especially electrical noise like speakers and alarm clocks. Air conditioning however can be used to cool down the room before sleeping and switched off during the night, allowing you to get to sleep without a problem.

Oh come on, this is pathetic its not that hot. People cry when its too cold and cry when its too hot. Enjoy it while it lasts!
Actually, it IS that hot, whilst the weather is good, the heat is not. I suffer much more than any of my friends when the temperatures like this and get called various names as I can't stand it. I absolutley love winter weather, and would much rather -30 than +30 as I find it very hard to cool down, but can warm up quite nicely.

If you work from home, having a nice environment is pretty essential otherwise you'd never get anything done.

Maybe some people like it hot and some like it cold? Or are you saying its the same people moaning about both?

TBH I would like it to be hot during the day and cool at night but sadly thats not the way it works :(.

The same people moaning about both lol.

What do these people do when they go on holiday? Its excellent being able to walk around 6PM in a t-shirt and not feel cold, sit outside in the garden with BBQs, socialise etc.

This 'heat' as some of you call it doesn't last long so why not make the most of it as the rest of the year is dull, miserable, grey skies and cold. I agree its 'hot' compared to the usual temperatures we get here, but its not that hot that we need to go " Quick to the Internetz buy a portable aircon unit! ".

Just open up some windows, get some cross-ventilation going.

C'mon guys, enjoy it.

What do you do if you go on a summer holiday? I know people who go on holiday and have the works, hat with neck guard, 50+ sun block cream and sit in the shade all day under the umbrella at the beach. I seriously obut you'd be able to warm up quite nicely at -30c lol.

Besides, you can cool down for free in the heat (shade) you can't warm up for free ;)

Dude, you would not be saying that sleeping in a room that reaches 37C at times during the peak of the summer, it's a nightmare seriously, opening windows and fans etc do jack at this temp.

How does it get to that temperature though? Are you guys running like 5 computers with Vapochills and got the heating on or something? Do you not open the windows?

Or am I really missing something?
