Ok, It's the noisiest computer I have ever used,.. not even just by a bit, but a long way.

I live in halls at uni, and the fan noise isn't too bad until night time. If I want to settle down and watch a film, I turn it all on, get into bed and realize I can't even hear the film. Go back, turn it up, get back into bed,.. then worry about neighbors ( paper thin walls ).. and end up turning it off ( nightmare ).

I have a Corsair H-50 for the CPU. 3 Casefans, one akasa blue, and one that came for the front with the H-50. I then have a side fan which also came with the case.

I would like blue fans, as they look good in the Coolermaster CM690 case. The front one came blue so i kept with the theme. What is the best way to keep my PC cool ( it's overclocked ), but a bit quieter.

Would you recommend a fan controller?
What are the best / quietest fans? ( really silent )
Could it be my graphics card ( Saphire 1GB ATI HD4870 ) that sounds like it's taking off?
Are there any other tips? I once bought a PC that had foam all in the inside on the case to stop noise, but will that make it hot?

Cheers

It wont be the gfx I have one and its fan is barely used outside of a game

Whats the room temp, maybe just take the case off and see if it helps at all. If it does then you need to improve circulation in the case, get flatter cables or whatever

Turn down the overclock overnight, ideally you can switch it back to stock easily

Yeah, you've instantly found two problem areas I think.
I can turn the clock down overnight, profiles are saved in the bios and it's straight forward to do.
Where the big fan is at the front of the case, all of the hard drives go. I have 3 drives, making 6 cables, and then all the rest of the spares from my PSU ( loads ) are shoved there to be out of the way. That front fan may well be doing very little because of it.
I have remember now whilst thinking about BIOS settings, I set the target temp to 40 degrees. The H-50 requires the pump to be 100% which is originally why I did it. The fans I have at the moment though don't have the 3 pin connectors, they're just molex cables, meaning they're always on 100%.
I'm going to look into some better cables. I have no idea where to put all the spares though, the number of them that come with the TX650 is terrible. I'm considering buying a new modules PSU, but it's a lot of money for little difference.

Are there any fans you would really recommend?

Get a fan controller :)

Something like a sunbeam rheobus (<£20) will handle many fans on each channel.

Or get speedfan to control any fans connected to motherboard :)

Checked your BIOS for fan speed options?

I've got a Asus GENE III, the speed control from the BIOS is keeping my 3 intake fans at 1000rpm until temps go above 50 degrees then they ramp up to their max of 1600/1700rpm.

Mind you I mostly blame my 4890 for the noise when gaming.

I wish I could do that but a lot of my fans are connected through molex ( part of the problem i'm sure ).

I've just been browsing the site and can't find something I was sure would be around...

Something to convert molex to 3 pin, ( they have the other way around ), so my molex fans can be powered by the motherboard connectors, so they can run slower than 100%.

I may just let go of some money and buy some new fans, and a controller for them... The front of my case looks a bit boring anyway.
