Well, I have a very nice Tz7 and D9 for holidays and projects although I need a digital camera that isn't as valuable for gigs and festivals, I really don't want to have to worry about my Tz7 in the moshpit.

Any suggestions for an affordable digi cam for this summers antics?

canon ixus

say the 100 or 120 or something

about £140 - £180 so not a massive drama if it breaks, gets wet, dropped in a portaloo etc..

they are very compact and easy to fit into trouser pocket with virtually no bulge - also has image stabalisation which does seem to help a lot when taking pics whilst drunk

Can you not just enjoy a gig with your eyes and not be as irritating as the 1000's of other people who spend the entire gig taking blurry cack photos?
I have to agree. They're so much more enjoyable when you're not faffing about with a camera.

I've been looking at a new camera and the Sony DSC TX5 looks great, it's shock, water and freezeproof, does HD video (720p) and it's pretty cheap* too so should be ideal for wet festivals and drunken antics.

* when I say cheap I'm comparing it to my other photography gear, non-SLR users may still class it as expensive :)

Thanks for the advice guys, will check them out tonight when I get home.

I agree, I'm not one of these people to watch the show through my camera, I usually take a few at the start and a few at the end as the gig winds down... but I like to have some memory of the show, I've been to soo many that unless I have photos I forget within a few years.

2nd hand Lumix bridge cameras, something like an FZ8 would do it and they're going for <£100 on Ebay

Not sure how sensitive they are at the gigs you go to but most in York don't mind the smaller bridge cameras

Even though it's not cheap (£300 on web, £350 rrp) my vote goes for the Sony HX5V for fantastic low light sensor (no flash), sweep panorama (150' for full crowd shots), 1080i video, 10x zoom, 25mm (really wide angle) lens to get all your mates in the piccy, auto GPS tagging etc. Getting one after pay day!
