For dissertation im doing theory which is 10k words.

I am thinking of doing it on this :

A Theoretical comparison on "HD READY" dslr's vs video cameras".

That is, the practical use of using DSLR's such as 5dmk2 to shoot both photography and video, as apposed to using a dedicated video camera, and a normal camera, or a dedicated video camera which has a still photography feature.

Sound worthwhile ? Im not really sure on any other ideas, but would like them to be photography or video based.

I dont, theres tons to talk about...

I think finding 30-50 references might be hard, with hd ready dslrs being new...

Depends on what your course is, if you can legitimately go into the science behind both then you'll be able to make 10k words easily enough.

However finding the references from well known sources will be tough, considering they don't generally like web based references many of them will be magazines

Google books works wonders ;)

The other idea i had was take the D700 and the 5dmk2 and extensivly compare them. The problem is i dont have access to either, let alone both, so it would be entirely based on reviews and tech theory.

5D MKII is a normal camera... The HD film is just a complimentary system to the camera.

edit: But you might wana talk about the new Sony consumer camcorders which allows switching of Alpha/Ziess lenses to be out soon

Yeah, I could write a damn thesis on this stuff (and even find it interesting!). Between the technical stuff, and motivation for cheap, hi-def video with a shallow depth of field there's plenty there. Sounds interesting, I assume whoever's marking it will be sick of film vs. digital!
