How do the DLC and Awakening work?

If I buy them all, and have everything before even playing the game AT ALL, what do I do?

If I install the DLC, such as Darkspawn Chronicles, and the Expansion, Awakening, does the game know I haven't played Origins yet, and stop me runing the story?

Not very good at explaining what I mean, so I hope someone gets what I am trying to ask hehe.

The DLC simply adds different areas on the map for you to travel to in the main game.

Awakening is basically a separate game - when you click "new game" you can choose the main game or awakening, although you can use the character from the main game.
 
Awakening is a separate game, so when you start a new game it asks whether to start Origins or Awakening. I imagine Darkspawn Chronicles is the same. The rest of the DLC simply integrates into Origins.
 
Awakening is also for high level characters which might be confusing. The main game is better so I would start with that and if you like it buy Awakening. :)
 
Awakening follows on from Origins, so you should start with that first. Plus, you can import your characater from Origins to Awakening, retaining your build and items, etc.
 
as i am a noob to rpg games, i am stuck, been trying to defeat the first mob of skeleton people in redfield i think it is and i keep dying.....managed to get to mob 2. i am going there straight after the first time you visit your camp. Ok i guess im not taking the right characters. I took myself a warrior, lily the rouge, morigan the mage and my usless wardog. Instead i wane take sten myself alison and morgan. but do the wardens keep and the stone prisionor before.

Seriously though, the mods are listed on social.bioware.com and www.dragonagenexus.com (the one I usually use), and each one has loads of comments from people who have tried them out, with ratings to show the best ones.

There are too many to mention. Try the Ser Gilmore one, which gives you an extra NPC (and it's fully voiced!) and his own personal mission. I also tried:

New Morrigan Face (Based on Concept Art) v 2.0
Hairstyles, Hair Color, Skin Tones, Eye Colors
Skip the Fade (You still get all the codex entries and the attribute points)
Ser Gilmore NPC - Fully Voiced

Also, "DAO-Modmanager" or "DAModder - Premiere DA Mod Manager", so you can easily keep track of the mods you install. It allows you to quickly get rid of the ones you don't like/decide against/think are too buggy. Dive in, and give some a try. You can get something that make a change as small as a head morph, or More Hairstyles (to give a character new appearance options) to new characters like Ser Gilmore or Zevrann (a female Zevran, but very much a WIP) all the way to new adventures (Alley of Murders).

And when all else fails:

Slap Morrigan.
 
Thanks for the response, I'll go through DAnexus and take ones I fancy and I'll be sure to get the mod manager.

Is there a reset attribute mod?

The files are mmh and msh formats but they're all in a folder.

I installed some cool looking mods, the Last Stand and The Bloodworks.
 
Great great game. :D

Spent 68 hours on it so far.... i'm just before the Landsmeet done most of the sidequests Level 19 for my main warrior. Only problem there is kind ran out of class skills to choose from ive maxed em out at level 19 apparently. Dual wield champion/reaver. (respeced from champion/templar as i wasnt using templar stuff).

Mods used, stuff like, extra gore, lockbash, expanded inventory, respec mod.

Going mainly with Leilana, Oghren and Morrigan. (occasionally Shale)

Stuck with a sweet armour set for my dual wielder throughout see pic
