When I started to play the guitar in 1970 my Dad sat me down and said that if he taught me E, A & B I could earn a living but if he threw C#m in there I could earn a fortune on the Club scene - he wasn't wrong.

It is because I played all the same 4 chords on piano/organs in the Clubs.
Same songs on a piano.
In fact if you're playing C Am F G you hardly have to move your fingers because they're all in the same place.

Myth.
Status Quo probably use more chords than Rush but it doesn't help when Quo call one of their albums 'In Search of The 4th Chord'.
Quo are very hard to pull off properly.
