After looking through the Pics: Your desk... RIGHT NOW thread, I discovered the concept of a monitor mount that mounts to the desk!!

I had only considered wall mounts and after looking online there seems to be a huge price difference between wall and desk mounts.

Ideally I'm looking for a single monitor mount that also allows you to pull the monitor towards yourself.

Any recommendations for decent monitor mount?

Ergotron do high quality mounts.

I don't have first hand experience of them but I know from reviews that they are pretty good.

I know Khaan! put up the very nicely shot photo below. The mount there looks great and the manufacturer also considered cable management in the design.

EDIT: Looks like n1blo called this one out before I posted it. It's the Ergotron MX.

Still keep suggestions coming in since this one is pretty pricey and a cable management design isn't a must.

Well throw "desk mounts" into google and have a gander. Places such as the online store named after a famous river based somewhere in south america seem to offer some reasonably priced ones. As for how good they are... no idea!

Lack of replies is probably due to the time by the way :).

This combined with the fact that most of us have our monitors on this little stand thing that they came with. If yours doesn't have one I suggest you demand your money back.

I can imagine a fair few people might want / be interested in something like a desk mount as it could potentially save a fair bit of deskspace? Not entirely sure the sarcasm was necessary but hohum... maybe I'm seeing it when it isn't there anyway.

Not really, most stands fit within the footprint of the screen itself and can have things placed on them anyway.

And you can just slide them about :p

Hmmm, well they are lifted off the desk so they share the same footprint but you have space underneath that you wouldn't otherwise have and can shove random desk based tat underneath it, they don't really have the same footprint where they attach onto the desk surely? Just look at the photo above. Having it more flush against the wall on a desk stand like the one above would save me space as my dell monitor stand takes up a fair bit of space at the back anyway.

I was just wondering if one would be handy on my own desk (not that I'm going to bother) and I do think it would save me some space, as one of my monitors is currently sitting on a monitor stand, and the other is on a graphics card box to keep them both level. Pointless for me though, I have enough space as it is.

Hmm, that Ergotron MX looks pretty damn nice. Miles more versatile than the stand that came with my monitor as well. Tempting...

You can get a multi monitor mount for just £65 if you google around, i don't know the name of it or where to buy them though, we bought them 3 months ago at work, no where near as switch as khaans but once you've got 2 x 24" monitors infront of it you can't really tell anyway :p They probably do a single monitor mount for even cheaper

That's the type of thing I'm looking for MrBios. Any chance you can have a peek their name the next time you're in the office?

I have a small built in office but I can't move anything about because it's all fixed in place. Deep desks are great but it leaves me about 2.5 feet from the screen! I loose too much desk space when I pull the monitor towards myself.

Obviously I've Googled these mounts, but I'm looking for people who have purchased one themselves or know someone who has so they can recommend.

How much have you seen the MX for? I paid a shade over £80 for mine IIRC but it was ages ago now :p

There are cheap alternatives out there that look great too but you need to make sure they don't wobble and will support your screen. My screen weighs ~11KG and the first Ergotron stand I bought would hit the deck as soon as I mounted the screen!

Oh and mounts > Stands every time!

11KG! Wow. So that's probably a 32" monitor then?

I've got a 22" HDTV which weighs 5.3 Kg, so hopefully that opens my options a little. I'll have to keep an eye on the maximum weight figures, thanks for that tip.

That shot of your desk was taken really well mate. You must have a fair bit of experience at photography.

32"? I wish! Only a 24" but it is all aluminium so lord knows where the weight is coming from :p

Thanks btw!

Found the name:
MDM04 LCD Monitor Desk Mount Bracket

The multi monitor mounts are MDM05 (just increase the number for the amount of monitors you require to mount), there very cheap but certainly do the job :) The single monitor mount is only £40, which compared to a lot of other mounts is an absolute steal!

EDIT: if your only after a single mount bracket then this is even cheaper: LCD501S, obviously i probably can't say where from but there only £23 at one place! (though theres no a lot of extension on this one, good if you just want to have it at a fixed depth and not move it towards you though)
