Brian Haw, the peace protester who has been camping in Parliament Square since 2001, has been arrested this morning, according to the BBC. The Metropolitan police won't confirm that, but they will say that two people were arrested this morning at Parliament Square on suspicion of obstructing the police.
I presume that this has been done in order to avoid upsetting Brenda but why this year in particular?

Is it possible that it has anything to do with the change of Government?

Are the coalition planning to stamp down on protest and the right to freedom of speech?

Bye bye Brian, Labour's gone and it's time for you to go. Don't forget to take your mess with you.

At last this menace to the British public has been taken off the streets! London is a safer place tonight!

When he was protesting against the Labour government he was a courageous and noble individual, a symbol of our free speech and right to protest under threat. Now he is protesting against the new Con/Lib government he's just a bit of a nutter who gets in the way.

How has he now stepped down from that status? The world is full of injustice and that will probably never change, Con/Lib is just another puppet show working to the same ultimate goal - take all they can from you/your country/other countries and split.

Wasn't he always just a bit of a nutter who gets in the way?

Parliament Square protester Brian Haw has been arrested for obstructing police during searches of tents on the green.
...
A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that two people had been arrested in Parliament Square at about 0800 BST for obstructing police. Police with sniffer dogs searched the collection of tents opposite the Houses of Parliament before the Queen arrived at the state opening of Parliament. ...(BBC online)
I have no doubt that the Metropolitan Police behaved in the patient, polite, non-confrontational manner that they have on the many previous occasions where they have tried to stifle Brian Haw's protest outside Parliament

Please don't hotlink images stockers.

That whole democracy village thing just annoys me. "We're here because in this democracy my vote only counts as much as everybody elses which means the government isn't doing the stuff I want to happen. As a result of this I'm going to pitch some ugly tents on parliament square!"

I hope they are charged for the turf to be relaid and charged for any extra cleaning that needs to be done in that area. What I really don't understand is seeing as what they are doing is clearly living there, not just protesting, why they don't just evict the buggers in short order? I bet they would if it were gypos in caravans, just because some of these guys want to hug trees they're allowed to stay?!?!?
