Does anyone have any recommendations for speakers to replace my current stock Z5500 satellites?

No special requirements really, black in colour would be best and need to sound better than the stock Z5500's.

Budget should be sub £200.

Cheers :D

The issue with doing this is the crossover filter is set at 120hz I believe on the z5500's, so changing the sats is not going to do a massive lot imo, find speakers that are exceptional at midrange and high tones I guess.

This. They are set very high so little to be gained.

Better to find a 5.1 and av receiver setup 2nd hand if you want something better than the z5500's (which are pretty decent as pc speakers go ;))

Unless you want to take it step by step and buy some decent surround and centre speakers now and mod your sub to alter the crossover filter (google it, many people have done this mod)

Thanks for the replies guys, does the Z5500 hardware over-ride the settings I have on my soundcard?

Say for instance I went for the altering of the crossover filter (I'm quite handy) what hz should I be setting? 80hz?

And again...Any recommendations on what speakers to replace with?

Many thanks

I believe that sattelites, provided they are good speakers with dedicated woofers and tweeters, should get the full range, and the sub anything under 80hz.

That's the way I have it in my car, sub LPF around 80ish hz. No filter on the front components or the rear speakers.

Ok thanks, what speakers should I be going for when I have sorted the crossover filter?

Yes I realise that. I just didn't think the amp would be good enough to warrant that kind of money spent. If he does intend to get an AVR at some point, then there is value in spending that kind of money on speakers.

I have tried it before, they did sound a lot better than the original satellites which supprised me but I would recommend getting an amp later on like you say

One thing to consider though, the speakers linked are considerably bigger than the Z5500's satellites. Granted they will provide much better sound, but having such large rears may pose a problem for the OP, depending on his setup.
