SETI@home News Vol. 105

Well i am not using rescheduler which i am told will help with the 16hr wu's and 12 hr cuda wu's but the computers are not hidden just keep an eye on the 480 see how it does.
Theres a clump of errors but as soon as i realised i stopped it and reinstalled the whole thing. Edgedemon i really wouldn't like to say wether they are worth the extra money,as you know am not the most tech savvy person around and would hate for you to be dissapointed.
But on the whole its going to enable me to move a machine from xp to w7 which i can do some light work on and get rid of the rig am currently using.
I honestly dont know where the horror stories on heat and noise are coming from, fair enough i dont play to many games of late but with tv on,downloads going and unrarring files and running boinc temp never topped 80 yet and the noise is allmost non existent.
Its doing 12 hr tasks in 10-12 minutes roughly, your probably better looking at the figures yourself Edge i never could make much sense of them :D

does any1 now of any crunching data comparing the 470 & 480. trying to work out if its worth the extra $$. im currently thinking not.

Im going to have to read up as this is the first I have heard of 12 hr tasks that were not astropulse...

I agree after a few hours sleep am going to read up on the rescheduler app, drop me a mail if you discover something before me. Glad things went smoothly with a refund for the faulty gpu, so you'll be back in the market good sah...me too, in fact would you mail me anyway we may be able to save each other a lot of hard work! Catch you later Edge, Marine, Senture Jim Bob Grandma...:D

synchronised WUs

not seen this before, 4 wu's running on the quad cpu have been put on 'waiting to run' whilst 4 new wu's have commenced + 1 on the GPU all commenced sychronised exactly. they are running on 'high priority'

any1 shed some light?

Look at the report deadlines on the high priority units, you'll notice they're much sooner than the others put on wait status.

might have known it would be something boring:(

seti is now down for maintainance, so i guess when it comes back on-line ill have been parped & the team will have stomped p society.:D

Back to square one me fellow team mates. Came back to machine this afternoon and cuda tasks had slowed down to a near stop, so looks like i will have to start all over again, best of luck everyone with some stunning rac but i think i will be taking a step backwards.

Have a go with the 6.10.56 client, it adds official Fermi support.

I didn't check the team standings before the planned down time but I think I may have got the stomp on :D

If the CUDA tasks have slowed to a crawl, you might have a VHAR or vlar running, they can take ages. try running reschedule and checking to see...

Evening Edge, i tried rescheduler but to be honest i got so hopelessly confused with the pointing to boinc paths etc i am running w7 64 bit and have enabled view hidden files and folders but no joy.
I get the nagging feeling i have installed lunatics 0.36 wrong somehow.
I install l0.36 with astropulse and multibeam ticked sse3 (x64 generic) and enable multibeam cuda.
Next page cuda vlarkill default and cuda 2.3 dlls i drop in the no kill file and others as recommended i just dont know, have gone through every variation of each option. I love tinkering and what not but this has me very nearly tearing my hair out, especially as i know now this definately works.
Will stick with it for the teams sake but i feel like doing a Marine on it :D:D

You'll not find it even with hidden files showing just find the folder in file manager and copy as text the address bar then paste that into the appropriate field.

Which rig you using? The i7 would be better off with SSE4 (intel) or SSSE3 (intel) having said that that is for cpu so shouldn't effect gpu.

teabag, Im off to bed as I have to be up at 3, but if you are around tomorrow night I can ring you and we can go through step by step it if that will help?
That is assuming that no-one else on here solves it first...
Will mail you tomorrow

Thank you Reaver, my first attempt was with sse3 as the chap who supplied his app_info was using that and it saved my typing :) I will try again using the sse4 just chose generic x64 on my last attempt as i am running w7 64 bit but anything is worth a try.
Ok ....takes a deep breath....am ready to start again!
One of my main reasons for being so keen to get it to work was the noise, with 480 there is hardly any which is really good when i am trying to work it doesn't distract at all. :)

I tried the x64 generic on the AMD rig and wasn't as fast as the x86 version but that might just be to do with it being AMD not Intel.
You could use the SSSE3 if typing is that hard it'll only need 1 extra 3 per line :p
