Had a wisdom tooth out on lower right and also 4th upper right tooth. Both were a nightmare coming out. Took about 2 hours and 3 people pulling me in different directions. Got some lovely stitiches in both areas so the right side of my mouth is wrote off currently.

Had the work done Friday but been in constant pain since but they did say too expect this for about a week. Anyone know how long the stitches take too perish naturally? Any good tips to help with my pain. Tried parcetomol/ibuprofen and dicloflex but not much use.

I hate teeth :(

Luck of the draw, if it's not awkward it will come out quite easily. Mine however was all messed up. Had to slice my gums open and even then they could not get it out.

Nasty one, no medical threads, but the stuff you are on is as good as it gets.

have you any rancid tatse in your mouth, or do things seem ok? There is the possibility of infection. Old cat-gut sutures dissolved quickly and went away well, not used anymore, and the vinyl ones can take some time to dissolve, the stitches shouldn't really be interfering with much, but often closing up a wisdom tooth hole can involve grabbing a bit of cheek at the back, (shouldn't but does).

It'll pass, but if you are egtting really rancid tatse might be worth a phone call to query if antibiotics would be beneficial if there is infection. Something like 400mg metronidazole three times a day.

Not medical in the slightest. Bloody wisdom teeth, we'd all be better if they never existed, useless pieces of crud.

I had horrific toothache last week. The only thing to help with the pain was 30/500mg Co-Codamol. Don't think you'll be able to get any Codeine that strong in the chemists without a prescription though (mine was left over from a knee injury).

I'm back for round two of root canal tomo morning then an impacted wisdom removal in a few weeks. Stupid teeth...wish I could afford to get a full set implants

Try to get some soluble paracetamol and when you have some dissolved in water, hold it in your mouth in the area where it hurts. This acts as a local anaesthetic

You can take 2x co-codamol and 2x Co-codaprin though for a total of 51.2mg.

Local anaesthetics are nerve blocks, drugs like benzocaine and cocaine for example. Paracetamol doesn't work that way. You can buy oral local anaesthetics at the pharmacy though.

I had stitches. Jesus Christ.

I hate dentists - my phobia. That and needles.
I even explained it to the dentist before I had a tooth pulled - he promised me it would take 5 minutes, one tiny injection, and it'd be done.

An hour and a half in the chair, extra nurse called in for help, afternoon cleared of appointments, 7 injections, 6 stitches.

I wanted to die.

OraJel is the best. It's basically a benzocain gel, you just put a pea size blob on the affected area, and bam!, no more pain.

Costs <£5 :)

Saved me days of pain during a dental abscess!

Had a wisdom tooth removed about a month ago, it was pretty unpleasant, not painful at the time but it took a lot of force (and some drilling/cutting) to get it out. The worst part is the noise as you hear the bone crack (I'm 29 so the tooth was pretty well fused in!). It did ache quite a lot afterwards but standard painkillers took the edge off. It was my jaw muscles that ached most as they really do have to tug pretty hard unless you are lucky.

Avoid aspirin as it might stop the clot forming, avoid smoking and alcohol as they can weaken the clot as well. If the clot dislodges then you can get "dry socket" which is apparently very painful.

Rinse gently with warm salt water (one teaspoon in a cup) every couple of hours to help fight infection. It tastes a bit gross but it's better than the taste of rotting gum (and having to go back to the dentist).

I didn't get the dissolving stitches but having them removed was pretty painless.

After the first couple of days I had no real pain, the only issue now is I have to rinse after each meal because the hole where the tooth used to be keeps getting food stuck in it. Apparently it will be a good few months before it fully heals.

All sounds good to me! Hah. Army dentist too, should be interesting!
Where you having it done? Had 2 wisdom teeth out by a guy at Catterick recently (one at a time, a month apart), did an awesome job on both. Shocks me to read about how it can be with some dentists/teeth!

I had an abscess because of mine, i was ordered to squeeze the crap out of it every so often to keep it 'down' as such. I can't describe the pain...
