Do all TD drivers think they are driving a supercar?

After following a plume of black smoke today I wish to never have a Dieselol of my own ¬_¬

The mental gymnastics done by most diesel owners to pretend they weren't either (a) forced into diesel by company car rules or (b) valued economy over driving and made a compromise would win a gold medal if it was an Olympic event.

And the gold medal goes to: "I bought it for the torque". Great: now explain torque to me...

Diesels aren't as common here and the kind of childish antics seen on UK roads are less prevalent. Having said that, the standard of driving is notably worse and kids of 15 can legally drive so my UK driving face () has been replaced with my NZ driving face ()

Diesels are supercars, I think people just buzz off the turbo feeling and torques. I notice all the boys in bradford seem they have supercars with there Seat Leon TDI's/Golf TDI's/A3 TDI's and not forgetting the odd Octivia TDI.

Uh, what?

This is exactly the point I think the OP was trying to counter. A mild turbo and a misunderstanding of what torque is doesn't make for a supercar.

They probably do. They are wrong :)

I'll stick with the 335d thanks, its got enough power to keep me happy for the moment and can be easily remapped to 340+ bhp, it doesn't kick out any smoke thanks to the particle filter and gets an easy 43 mpg average. Its a little noiser than a petrol when stationary but then is near enough silent when moving unless you push it hard to the redline (which the 335d can hit quite easily) where it makes a quite pleasant straight 6 noise.

Woops, I meant to say, diesel are supercars? lol. Not that they are. :o

You know threads like these just reinforce how much of a diesel-hating forum OcUK Motors has become right? :p

From a sound prospective just about from a day to day driving, performance and fuel economy I'd take the 335d every time...oh look I did....

Thats the point - diesel is a choice made on the basis of economy.

If the fuel economy was identical to a 335i, which would you have bought then?

The 335d, as it has performance equal to if not better in most situations where it matters for driving on the UK roads (A,B or M). I drove them both back to back before deciding on the 335d and to me its a more impressive car for the way the engine delivers its power and the autobox allows it to deliver it.

They both deliver the power in a very similar way, actually, as you'd expect given both are twin turbocharged 3 litre engines. However the 335i delivers more power, is more flexible, smoother, revs higher and sounds better. It is the clear and obvious choice unless you are constrained by fuel economy or company car tax.

The 335d is a fantastic diesel, infact arguably one of the very best, if not the very best, diesel powered passenger car on the market today.

But remove the financial consideration and there is simply no reason to choose it over a 335i.

Yes, I've driven a 335.
