I was about to go out to my favorite 24 hour diner, but first i need to activate hsbc card. They tell me i can do this 24/7 via online banking.

I set online banking up last week, after a long process with a shoddy branch who tried to force everyone in the queue to use a telephone to do it rather than actually serve people.

I go to activate my card, and i log into the site to be greeted with...

For your security, we cannot proceed with your request. Please call us on 0845 600 2290 quoting reference 039, and we will be happy to help. Please click 'OK' to close this window.

Whats the point of telling me i have to do everything over the internet and then it doesnt work ? I tried 3 times, twice i got a 404 error when i click submit.

They are quick enough to charge you extortionate rates and send you letters asking for £45 if you go 1p over your limit, but when you need help they are as difficult as possible. GRRR

Cos I wasnt planning on going out, but its too hot and I cant sleep (appears im not the only one) and my cars aircon is awesome!

Why didn't you do it during the day?

Besides the point, he was told he could do it 24/7 online.

For me, two problems;

"hsbc the worlds local bank" except if you go anywhere outside of your actual local branch, had card issues where they blocked it when I went on holiday after I told them I was going (lackys). The HSBC in canada wouldn't do it, nor would they help me or let me use a phone, nothing.
They simply told me no. (There's probably a perfectly reasonable explanation but the service was inexcusable)

Also my online banking has been messed for over a year, I can no longer view my credit card statements online. They haven't been able to fix it after speaking to both parties involved.

Dont get me started on that "Worlds local bank" BS.

HSBC have cut me off in at least 5 countrys around the world now, they no longer provide 24 hour telephone banking where you can actually talk to someone unless you pay them every month and when I refussed to pay some little runt on the phone told me "well I guess you'd better try and earn more money so you can get on the premier account then".
Now I earn good money almost enough to qualify and i have over 40K in there accounts but frankly the second im back in the UK im going to switch to another bank.
There services used to be so much better but right now they are just a call center and "branches" are just a load of ATMs and phones with no actual people who can help.

Been a user of HSBC and had no issues so far other than a small arguement with someone in pakistan over my credit card statement.

Went to America, phoned up, said I was going away and needed it authorising, no issues!

Well they have cut me off in the US (4 times), Korea, Ireland, Holand & Veitnam. Everytime I've told them I was travelling and everytime they have still cut me off.
Best part is you can't talk to anyone anymore cause unless you pay them for their "advance" account you cant talk to anybody on the phone outside UK working hours. which doesnt help when your 8 hours outside UK hours.

I've banked with HSBC for something like 25 years (Griffin savers account when they were midland bank) and though my student years they were perfect.

Its strange that once i started travelling a bank that brands themselfs on being global has failed me so often.

I had a letter yesterday saying they were trying to get in touch with me, I always turn of 0800 numbers when they come through.

Stated I could phone them from 8am until midnight and I only have a normal current account.

I've been a HSBC customer for 10 years but have always thought about switching to FirstDirect. I've heard a lot of good things, and the little experience I do have of them is very positive.

Sometimes you get that message because a member of staff has your account opened.

I'm with First Direct. Superb! Last two times I had standing orders taking me over my overdraft limits they have phoned to tell me. That's just one example of their superb service. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Been with HSBC for over 20 years and they have been flawless.

Why didn't you activate your card well in advance? Proper planning prevents **** poor performance.

Missed a payment on my HSBC Card not a large amount to be paid just an oversight on my part. Anyhow they were chasing me ringing all hours of the day in the morning at 8am whilst I was fast asleep in bed. Then in the evening on my mobile whilst I'm relaxing at the Pub.

In the our main branch they have reduced the counters from seven to just two, get que's all the way to the entance doors now.

Have had enough of HSBC worst bank I've ever had to deal with.

I didn't think there were any particularly stringent requirements for this other than being gullible enough to actually hand over £15 per month to pay for your bank account. The phone monkeys are particularly bad at selling the account so I do wonder what sort of people actually sign up for them.

Actually there is a workaround for this - phone the 24 hour fraud line on the back of your debit card. I had to do this when they cut me off in a Latvian nightclub at 3am (despite me having told them I was traveling there) .

Thats for advance, premier needs 100K salary or 50k savings but its free and has even more stuff chucked in like breakdown cover

To be honest mate I have had much worse from barclays. They have been plain incompetent every time I have actually tried to do anything with my account other than withdraw cash.

The call center staff have been trained by chimps and all give different answers to the same question. I think that banks are all like this to a certain extent.
