Evening all,

Iam currently in the process of purchasing my first flat, but Iam just after some advice really on if I can save or possibly get any cashback on the various payments that I have to pay, solicitors/things for my flat/other fees.

I was thinking maybe getting a cashback credit card-but I dont think there are any around at present.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Things for your flat - yes, I'd imagine you could get a cashback CC for them.

Solicitors fees - you can probably pay by CC.

Stamp Duty afaik cannot be paid by CC.

I would imagine that if you pay by credit card to a solicitor they may charge a CC fee of a few percent on top to process the payment. Worth checking out first with a quick phone call before going to pay.

I am too on the process of purchasing my first property and im afraid to say that, afaik, you have to take the hit.

So far I have paid:

945 solicitor bill (conveyance 550 + 96.25 vat, insurance 10, registering disposition 200, registering standard security 30, inland revenue land transaction fee 58.75)

195 for survey/valuation (mortgage purpose)

And 99 quid booking fee for my mortgage

My solicitor fee was the cheapest in the city, according to everyone they are the worst but the cheapest...

do your own conveyancing it really is a dodle and saves a fortune, the solicitor you believe your paying for is probably a work experience kid.

It doesnt physically matter where your solicitor is. Convey UK (who i use) have been faultless and would have been less than half that price.

Thats expensive conveyancing for a simple purchase.
