Is this a good deal?

I have the option to purchase some customer returned memory. As far as I can see it has not been used and I may also be able to test it to ensure it works. It is for some Corsair DOMINATOR GT, PC2-8500 Dual Channel Computer Memory Kit (4GB). I have been told I can have it for £80. I have no idea if this is a good deal or not with the way RAM prices are at the moment.

For anyone wondering I work in the returns department for a company and we get employee discount on anything we may want to buy.:D

Will you be able to use the Corsair Warranty if you buy it like this?

If so, its a good deal - this RAM currently costs ~£100. Are you needing more RAM?

I'm not to sure on the warranty. I know that I can send it back if it goes faulty for a refund withing the first more and then a replacement about 6 months after that. Going from experience with other items I'm going to assume that there won't be any manufacturers warranty as the company I work for generally tend to buy stock without any kind of warranty so they can get it much cheaper.

I currently only have 2GB. I wanted the RAM so I could upgrade to 64-bit and then possible buy another matching kit in the future to bring it to 8GB.

In that case I would suggest buying some other RAM from elsewhere. When bought from a shop, almost all decent RAM modules/kits come with a lifetime warranty. In my opinion the extra you will have to pay to get a full warranty kit will be worth it in the long-term.

What is the spec of the system you are planning to upgrade, especially the motherboard make/model?

I just had a look on the OCUK store, this RAM is great stuff and only £77.

And another recommendation from me. The lifetime warranty is important, I've just had to RMA a stick of three year old ram with Crucial and they've been great. Six day turn-around (including the week-end, and with great comms.

No way would I buy ram without the warranty.

How would you check if second hand RAM still had a valid warranty? Would there be anyway I could check to see if they are still eligible?
