No it isn't. Certain software is only available on Windows, particularly in the business world. Free Linux alternatives don't cut it for a lot of people.
XP is the greatest piece of OS going. I am still on it and refuse to upgrade to anything else.
How on earth do those business's cope when they get the blue screen of death.
Honestly I thought peeps in OcUK where a bit more clued up, I suspect most are.

You're wrong , xp was great win7 now is the king . Wouldn't go back , noway , and I have been using xp for over 6 years
windows xp is pretty damn good I must confess. I'm on 7, but I HATE the search feature. The search in XP was the best ever, so user friendly
I love it, never took to it when it came out, tried Vista and 7 and its gone too far, XP is simple and quick I am running at 4 year old PC but its so smooth and does what you want so why bother upgrading.
You've got that the wrong way round, XP has more 'Dos' code than Vista or 7, remember, Vista was a major re-write.
The difficulty Microsoft has with future growth is its current monopoly. Although you can't compare the two, microsoft is mainly software, apple is mainly hardware.
They actually set their pc's up properly so don't get bsod.
Hows that kernel panic going for you?
When windows suffers a fatal error it gives technical details on how to find and resolve the problem.
When osx fails it has to tell it's user how to turn it off and on again.

Gotta love the MS haters. They offer the most accepted and proven software, why do companys use MS? cause their staff need little training and its a STANDARD now in most industrys.

That said Apple have built a nice bussness based on consumer electronics now more so than PCs and OSX, and with iTunes they have a constant stream of income from music,tv,films and apps. as much as i hate iTunes it works because joe public can buy a song/app/tv ep by simply click on it and use it on his PC/Mac/iPod/iPhone.
How much money does iTunes make apple a year? How much does Zune make MS?
I like Zune but it never got a global launch (I own a Zune 2).

Why are their so many Microsoft supporters in the house? I'm really puzzled, I thought this forum was full of young intelligent IT facing professionals who know technolody and where it is going.
I'll accept that Microsoft might come back strongly in the next few years but then again I think England will win the world cup.
Microsoft is over, finished, gone, the world has moved on, Bill has hanged up his boots, he did fantastic for 25 years, well done to the man, but you can't have DOS in your software especially as we are now in the 21st century.

I'll be 100% honest here.
I'm 25 now. I went to college when I was 17 to learn design. Since then I have done the six months or so at college, 2 years as a Mac Operator at a local paper, a year as a Mac Operator at a print firm. Then I went to work for Apple. I did about six months purely on the sale floor, then a year doing around 30 hours a week of training on both the store's Macs and Macs that people brought in. In short, I have 'met' probably 800+ Macs. Then I went to a reseller and have been there since September, so that's another 9 months of sales, training and tech support.
I've seen a Kernel Panic about four times - certainly less than six or seven. It's very rare, and when it happens it's usually because the Mac is very ill indeed.
In my work I was and am chummy with hundreds of customers - consumers and pros. I was also and still am chummy with a fair few Apple technicans. I know the ugly side of macs, I know what's right and what's wrong.
Apple make only one product that I really don't believe in and don't trust, and that's the Time Capsule. They are utter pants and die for fun. Everything else varies from acceptable to awesome, mostly erring towards the awesome. And I've been on all the sides of the fence - consumer, professional user, and Apple employee.
Don't mistake me for a fanboy either - I have some very strong opinions about Apple Retail that I wouldn't dare to divulge in 'public', but I do believe in their products, and I took some convincing. I only started to think they were worth having in the average person's home when Tiger came out, until then I felt they were fantastic for graphics/pre-press/production work but severely lacking for home users.
I do agree however that the Kernel Panic is absolutely the most offensive and aggravating way for a computer to fail. The whole things tops, then a grey background, then the image you've posted slowly stomps down the screen in about ten steps. It makes me rage.
